The Princess of Wales shared a touching moment with a young patient during a visit to London’s Evelina Children’s Hospital when 10-year-old cardiac patient Ejran innocently asked whether she was “the Queen.”

Smiling warmly, Katherine gently corrected him, replying: “No, I’m the Princess of Wales.”

The exchange quickly became one of the highlights of the visit, reflecting the relaxed and compassionate atmosphere she created while spending time with children receiving specialist treatment at the hospital.

Princess Offers Encouragement to Children and Their Families

Throughout the engagement, Katherine took time to speak individually with young patients and their relatives, offering words of encouragement and support.

While chatting with Ejran, she asked whether he had made any friends during his stay.

When he shook his head, the Princess reassured him with optimism, saying that perhaps they simply “hadn’t come along yet.”

She also thanked the youngster for patiently waiting to meet her, accepted flowers from well-wishers, and blew kisses to children gathered during the visit, gestures that brought smiles to many of those present.

Spotlight on Evelina’s Expanding Children’s Healthcare Services

The visit was designed to draw attention to Evelina London’s long-term vision of becoming the capital’s most comprehensive integrated children’s hospital.

Katherine has served as the hospital’s royal patron since 2018 and has remained closely connected to its work supporting seriously ill children from across London and beyond.

Hospital leaders are planning a major expansion over the next decade that will include a new building featuring additional operating theatres, hospital beds, advanced scanners and cutting-edge medical technology.

The Princess’s appearance also helped highlight the Evelina London Children’s Charity’s campaign to raise £100 million to support the ambitious redevelopment project.

Tour Includes Cardiac Care and Future Cancer Services

During her visit, Katherine toured several specialist departments within the hospital.

She first visited Edward Ward, the newly developed cardiac centre at St Thomas’ Hospital, where she met children receiving heart treatment in a purpose-built environment designed to make hospital stays more welcoming and less intimidating for young patients.

The Princess later spent time at Galaxy Ward, the hospital’s new outpatient facility and Children’s Day Centre.

There, families receive face-to-face cardiac consultations, diagnostic testing such as echocardiograms, medical assessments and ongoing specialist care for children living with heart conditions.

Her final stop introduced her to staff working on plans for a new children’s cancer programme.

The future Children’s Cancer Principal Treatment Centre at Evelina aims to bring together specialist cancer, blood and bone marrow transplant services from across London and southeast England, allowing young patients to receive comprehensive treatment in one location.

Elegant Appearance Reflects Familiar Royal Style

For the engagement, the Princess chose an elegant cream midi dress by Suzannah London, featuring delicate pin-tuck detailing at the waist, contrasting black buttons and a coordinating belt.

The outfit was a familiar choice, having previously been worn during the memorial service marking the fifth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

She completed the look with black slingback heels while styling her signature bronde hair in soft, loose waves.

Visit Follows Three Peaks Charity Challenge

The hospital engagement came shortly after Katherine shared new family photographs celebrating the completion of her Three Peaks Challenge in support of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

The images featured the Princess alongside Prince William, their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, as well as her parents and younger brother, James Middleton.

In a social media post accompanying the photographs, Katherine thanked supporters for backing the fundraising effort, while James praised his sister’s resilience and determination.

He revealed that they had spoken about climbing mountains while she was receiving hospital treatment, describing it as an honour to join her on the challenge.

He said watching her recovery and commitment to both her family and charitable work had been an inspiration.

The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales—Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon)—within 24 hours.

Katherine completed the demanding challenge by travelling between the mountains with her support team, becoming the first known member of the Royal Family to accomplish the feat.
