Ukraine’s government has moved to remove two senior officials at state-owned Sense Bank as scrutiny intensifies following the release of recordings by the country’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Prime Minister Sergey Koretsky announced that the Cabinet of Ministers had decided to suspend the bank’s supervisory board chairman and had also initiated proceedings to suspend the chairman of its management board.

Cabinet Takes Action Against Supervisory Board Chief

Koretsky said the government had formally approved the suspension of the head of Sense Bank’s supervisory board.

The move represents a significant intervention in the leadership of one of Ukraine’s state-owned financial institutions as authorities respond to allegations surrounding material contained in newly released anti-corruption recordings.

The prime minister announced the decision in a Telegram post without providing further details about the specific allegations against the bank’s executives.

Management Board Chairman Also Faces Suspension

Alongside the supervisory board decision, the Cabinet initiated the suspension of Sense Bank’s management board chairman.

Koretsky did not specify whether the two officials are accused of wrongdoing or whether their suspensions are precautionary measures pending further investigation.

The government’s decision comes as Ukraine’s anti-corruption authorities continue examining material connected to a wider corruption scandal.

Bank Appears in Newly Released Recordings

Sense Bank was reportedly mentioned in recordings recently released by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, known as NABU.

The recordings have added pressure on Ukrainian institutions and prompted officials to take action involving the leadership of the state-owned bank.

However, the available announcement did not establish that Sense Bank itself or either of the suspended officials committed a crime.

Government Responds as Corruption Case Develops

The Cabinet’s intervention illustrates the growing political and institutional fallout from the corruption investigation.

Ukraine has faced sustained pressure to strengthen oversight of state institutions and demonstrate effective action against corruption, particularly during the ongoing war.

The latest decisions concerning Sense Bank come as investigators continue to assess the material contained in the newly released recordings.

Further Details Remain Unclear

Koretsky’s announcement did not disclose how long the suspensions would last, what specific conduct prompted the government’s action or what further steps could follow.

The suspension of the supervisory board chief has already been approved by the Cabinet, while the process involving the management board chairman has been initiated.

Further developments are expected as Ukraine’s anti-corruption authorities examine the recordings and the government determines what additional measures may be necessary.
