The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it has eliminated Sabahi Sami Mahmoud Shahata, whom it identified as a platoon commander in Hamas’ military wing.
According to the military, Shahata was involved in the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel and participated in holding hostages during their captivity in Gaza.
Israeli officials further alleged that Shahata was involved in planning and advancing attacks against both Israeli civilians and IDF personnel operating in the Gaza Strip.
The military presented the operation as part of its ongoing campaign targeting Hamas commanders and operatives.
Strike Conducted After Suspects Enter Structure Near Security Zone
In a separate development, the IDF reported that soldiers operating near the Security Zone in the Baraashit area identified several individuals who had crossed into the zone and entered a structure that was deemed a potential threat to Israeli forces.
The military said a strike was carried out against the building after the suspects were detected. Israeli authorities did not immediately provide additional details regarding the identities of those inside or the outcome of the operation.
Despite the incident, the IDF reiterated its commitment to the existing agreement between Israel and Lebanon, emphasizing that it continues to operate within the framework of ongoing security arrangements along the border.
Gaza Incident Involving Armed Threat
The Israeli military also reported an encounter involving a person it described as a terrorist in southern Gaza.
According to the IDF, the individual crossed what it referred to as the “Yellow Line” and moved toward Israeli troops in a manner that posed an immediate danger.
The military stated that soldiers responded by opening fire and neutralizing the individual in order to remove the threat. No further information was released regarding the person’s identity or any possible affiliations.
Continuing Security Operations
The reported incidents come as Israeli forces maintain military operations across multiple fronts, including Gaza and border areas.
Israeli officials say such actions are aimed at preventing attacks on troops and civilians while targeting individuals they accuse of involvement in militant activities.
The latest announcements underscore the continuing tensions in the region, with military operations and security incidents remaining a regular feature of the conflict.
