Melania Trump is preparing to attend one of college football’s biggest matchups this weekend as LSU takes on Alabama in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, without President Donald Trump accompanying her.
The First Lady’s visit to Tiger Stadium has prompted an extensive security operation involving the United States Secret Service, with fans warned to expect delays and changes to normal arrangements around the university.
Her appearance will also include an announcement of a $5 million donation from an LSU Foundation donor to establish an endowed scholarship under her Fostering the Future initiative.
White House Confirms Melania’s Louisiana Visit
The White House confirmed the trip earlier this week, saying Melania would travel to Baton Rouge to promote her Fostering the Future initiative through a special announcement at Louisiana State University.
The announcement stated that she would attend the highly anticipated game between the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide at Tiger Stadium.
The visit will also feature the activation of a Fostering the Future campaign across the university campus and at the stadium.
Secret Service Issues Security Warnings to Fans
LSU Athletics has alerted ticket holders to additional security arrangements ahead of Saturday’s game, warning that access to parts of the campus and movement around the stadium could be affected.
In an email to supporters, the athletics department said the presence of high-profile guests and the Secret Service would require changes to normal game-day arrangements.
“Please allow extra time for parking, campus navigation, and reaching your seat,” the department advised.
University officials also warned that campus closures and security restrictions could change throughout the day at the discretion of the Secret Service.
Student to Receive $10,000 Scholarship
One of the highlights of Melania’s visit will be the recognition of LSU junior Wynter Allen, who is due to receive a $10,000 scholarship funded through her programme.
Allen will be introduced alongside the First Lady at Tiger Stadium.
Speaking to WAFB9 ahead of the event, the student expressed excitement about meeting Melania and thanking her for the financial support.
“I mean, it’s exciting, it’s nice to be able to meet the person who’s changed my life and hopefully continues to,” Allen said.
He added that he was looking forward to thanking her and shaking her hand.
Donald Trump Previously Attended Tennessee’s SEC Game
Melania’s appearance comes after her husband attended Tennessee’s SEC matchup against Texas in Knoxville earlier this season.
Donald Trump received a loud reception from spectators during the September game, which he attended without the First Lady.
The President had also been expected to attend Alabama’s home game against Georgia last month but cancelled his appearance because of Hurricane Isaias.
Explaining his decision in a Truth Social post, Trump said emergency personnel needed to concentrate on responding to the approaching storm rather than managing security arrangements surrounding his visit.
He wrote that he would miss the Alabama-Georgia matchup but hoped to visit both teams at a later date.
LSU and Alabama Enter Game With Matching Records
Saturday’s encounter brings together two teams with identical 6-2 records, although Alabama holds the higher position in the latest Associated Press rankings.
LSU is ranked No. 15, while Alabama occupies the No. 9 position.
Alabama suffered a 20-17 defeat to Georgia after Trump’s cancelled visit before losing to Tennessee.
The Crimson Tide subsequently recovered with a victory over Texas A&M two weeks ago before entering their scheduled break.
LSU, meanwhile, heads into the contest after securing consecutive victories against Mississippi State and Auburn.
The Tigers had previously suffered a dramatic overtime defeat to Kentucky before recovering with their two recent wins.
Trump Couple Previously Attended National Championship Together
Although Donald Trump will not accompany Melania to Baton Rouge, the couple attended the College Football Playoff National Championship game together in January.
The President’s September appearance in Knoxville and Melania’s scheduled visit to LSU mean both will have attended major college football events separately this season.
