Eskom has announced a planned nine-hour electricity outage in Braamfischer, Soweto, on Thursday, 29 October 2026.

The utility confirmed the interruption in its Gauteng Cluster Connect bulletin for October 2026, explaining that the shutdown is necessary for essential maintenance on distribution power lines.

Customers in the affected area have been urged to prepare for the temporary loss of electricity.

Power Cut Scheduled From 09:00 to 18:00

The planned outage will begin at 09:00 on Thursday, with electricity expected to be restored by 18:00 the same day.

The interruption will cover most of the day, and residents have been advised to make arrangements before the supply is switched off.

Preparations include charging mobile phones, laptops and backup batteries in advance, as well as planning meals and considering how to keep refrigerated food properly stored during the outage.

Eskom cautioned that circumstances beyond its control could affect the planned maintenance schedule. Residents have been advised to monitor the utility’s communication channels for updates or possible changes.

Eskom Warns Residents About Electrical Safety

Eskom has urged customers to treat electrical appliances and installations as live throughout the outage because electricity could be restored without warning.

Residents should not attempt electrical repairs or interfere with wiring while the supply is interrupted.

The utility also recommends switching off appliances and unplugging sensitive electronic equipment to help protect against potential power surges when electricity returns.

Eskom thanked customers for their cooperation and apologised for the inconvenience caused by the maintenance work.
