Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality has introduced 12 specialised vehicles to improve waste collection and environmental management across the metro.

Mayor Princess Faku unveiled the fleet during the handover of the Solid Waste and Environmental Management Project at Gonubie Resort in KuGompo City.

The new vehicles are intended to provide municipal teams with additional resources to maintain clean, safe and healthy communities.

Fleet Includes 10 Compactor Trucks

The newly procured fleet consists of 10 compactor trucks, one tipper truck and one landfill compactor truck.

According to the municipality, the vehicles will strengthen operational capacity, improve daily refuse collection and support the delivery of efficient and sustainable waste management services.

The acquisition forms part of the metro’s ongoing efforts to improve refuse collection, address illegal dumping and promote environmental cleanliness across its communities.

Mayor Highlights Commitment to Service Delivery

Faku said the investment represented the municipality’s commitment to responding to residents’ needs and improving basic services.

“Today is more than a ceremonial handover of vehicles and machinery,” she said.

“It is a demonstration of our commitment in building a municipality that responds to the needs of its people, restores dignity to our communities and ensures that every resident can live in a clean, healthy and safe environment.”

Residents and Businesses Urged to Help Stop Illegal Dumping

The mayor called on residents, community members and local businesses to work with the municipality to combat illegal dumping and take shared responsibility for keeping neighbourhoods clean and safe.

She also highlighted the importance of equipping municipal teams with adequate resources to ensure reliable and efficient waste management services.

Municipality Expects Improved Waste Collection

In a statement, Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality said the new fleet demonstrated its commitment to strengthening operational capacity and improving environmental management.

“Through this investment, the Metro aims to enhance refuse collection, promote responsible waste disposal and improve the quality of life of communities across the city,” the statement read.
