Meghan Markle has celebrated Prince Harry’s 42nd birthday with a series of intimate family photographs, offering a glimpse into the Sussexes’ new life in Britain with their two children.
The Duchess of Sussex shared nine photographs of Harry with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet on Instagram, accompanied by a warm birthday message.
“He’s simply the best. Happy birthday, my love,” Meghan wrote, adding a heart emoji.
Harry Pictured Enjoying Family Time
The photographs capture Harry spending time outdoors with his family and their Labrador, Pula.
In one image, the Duke of Sussex is seen gently kissing five-year-old Lilibet on the forehead, while another shows him carrying his daughter’s bicycle.
The images present a relaxed picture of family life as the Sussexes settle into their return to Britain.
Meghan also shared a separate video montage on Sunday featuring the family enjoying outings in the UK.
The clip was set to Wham!’s Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.
Archie And Lilibet Move To Another School
The birthday post comes as the Sussexes adjust to a major change following their relocation from the United States on August 26.
Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, have reportedly already been moved to a new school despite only recently beginning classes in England.
The lengthy journey involved in getting the children to their first school was said to have created difficulties for their security team, prompting the decision to move them to another school.
A source close to Harry and Meghan told People that getting the children settled remains the couple’s main priority.
“Settling the children has been, and remains, their focus. Everything else will fall into place when the time is right,” the source said.
Sussexes Focus On Settling Back In Britain
The source added that the family has been dealing with the practical demands of moving halfway across the world.
“There is a lot to do. They have just moved halfway across the world and it’s been really busy getting the kids settled,” they said.
“Their focus has been on that, and will remain on that, for the time being. They are happy to be back.”
The family’s return has also placed renewed attention on the security arrangements surrounding Harry and Meghan.
Harry Awaits Security Assessment
Reports indicate that both Sussexes are expected to receive an official risk assessment in light of their changed circumstances.
The Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures, known as Ravec, which is responsible for decisions concerning royal security, is understood to have met last week.
Harry is reportedly awaiting the outcome of a threat assessment by the Risk Management Board, with Ravec expected to determine whether the couple should receive taxpayer-funded security.
The issue of Harry’s security has remained a contentious subject since he and Meghan stepped away from their roles as senior working royals.
Sussexes’ Original Plan Was Rejected
Harry and Meghan announced in January 2020 that they intended to step back as senior members of the Royal Family and become financially independent.
At the time, they said they wanted to continue supporting Queen Elizabeth II while dividing their time between the UK and North America.
However, the late Queen ultimately ruled at the Sandringham Summit, which was convened to address the so-called Megxit crisis, that the couple could not maintain a position that effectively left them “half in and half out” of royal life.
Dispute Over How Sussexes Are Described
The Sussexes’ return has also been accompanied by fresh tensions over their official status.
Last week, Harry and Meghan were reportedly surprised by a formal letter sent by the Lord Chamberlain under the direction of King Charles to senior figures across Government and the military.
The letter reportedly described the couple as “private citizens”.
The Sussexes are said to prefer being referred to as “public figures”, while Team Sussex reportedly received only about an hour’s notice before the letter was released and therefore had little opportunity to raise concerns or clarify the wording.
Uganda Reverses Invictus Games Withdrawal
The dispute was subsequently linked to Uganda’s initial decision to withdraw from Harry’s 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.
Uganda’s military chief, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, reportedly cited “that Harry-Meghan nonsense” when announcing that the country would not participate in anything that lacked the King’s approval.
However, the situation changed after Sir Clive Alderton, the King’s private secretary, reportedly contacted General Kainerugaba to ease tensions.
Uganda was later confirmed to be taking part in the Games after all.
King Charles was said to have been “moved” by the Ugandan military leader’s reported sensitivity towards the monarch’s position on the event.
