Ivanka Trump Rejects Washington Politics as She Flaunts Family Life, Luxury and a Controversial New Ambition

Ivanka Trump appears to be embracing a dramatically different chapter of her life as she approaches her 45th birthday, filling Instagram with images of family holidays, fitness, books and quiet moments away from Washington.

Her latest photo dump offered a glimpse of that lifestyle: a polka-dot dress, affectionate pictures with husband Jared Kushner, a swimsuit shot from Iceland’s Blue Lagoon, a family holiday in Costa Rica and even a photograph of a cactus garden.

Her children, Arabella, 15, Joseph, 12, and Theodore, 10, also featured prominently.

The polished images have prompted speculation that Ivanka, nearly six years removed from her role in her father Donald Trump’s first White House administration, may be deliberately projecting an image of an idyllic existence.

But a friend familiar with her thinking says that interpretation misses the point.

A Deliberate Break From Washington

According to the friend, Ivanka’s social media activity is less about creating a public-relations campaign than documenting a life she has consciously chosen.

“She’s not posting photos in real time,” the friend said. “Ivanka’s far more private and she’s just posting a periodic photo dump.”

The delayed posts also help prevent people from knowing where the family is while they are travelling.

The message behind the photographs, if there is one, appears to be straightforward: Ivanka has stepped away from politics and is comfortable with the decision.

After serving as a senior adviser during her father’s first presidency, she was reported to have become disillusioned with the political environment, describing Washington as vicious and toxic.

When Donald Trump launched his 2024 campaign, she chose not to return to the political arena.

Family Has Become the Priority

One of the strongest reasons for her change in priorities appears to be her experience of losing her mother, Ivana Trump, who died suddenly in 2022 at the age of 73.

Friends say the loss prompted Ivanka to think more deeply about being present for her own children, particularly with Arabella approaching the stage of life when college will soon become a reality.

That has translated into a busy schedule of family trips and shared experiences.

Earlier this summer, Ivanka was photographed taking surfing lessons in Costa Rica.

She also went horseback riding along the beach with Arabella.

The family later travelled to Iceland, where Ivanka and Jared were photographed enjoying the Blue Lagoon and other activities.

Rather than signalling a political comeback, the travel and family photographs appear to reflect an effort to make the most of the years before her children become adults.

From Politics to the “Art of Living”

Ivanka’s interests extend beyond holidays and fitness.

Her social media posts have increasingly revealed an intellectual side, particularly through the books she has been reading.

Among them is John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, which she described as a book that explores loneliness, friendship, compassion, power and responsibility.

She has also been reading A Joseph Campbell Companion: Reflections on the Art of Living, drawing on the work of the late mythologist Joseph Campbell and his philosophy of finding meaning and purpose.

Another selection is The Beginning of Infinity by University of Oxford physicist David Deutsch, a book examining knowledge, science and the ideas that emerged from the Enlightenment.

Her reading list has also included David R. Hawkins’ Power vs. Force, James A. Michener’s Hawaii, Kristin Hannah’s The Four Winds and Winter Garden, and Ariel Lawhon’s historical thriller The Frozen River.

The range suggests an interest in history, philosophy, science, psychology and personal development rather than the political news cycle she once inhabited.

Jared Kushner Remains Close to Politics

While Ivanka has largely withdrawn from Washington, Jared Kushner continues to maintain a connection to her father’s administration.

Kushner has no formal position in the administration but remains an informal adviser and envoy involved in major foreign-policy matters.

He and fellow envoy Steve Witkoff recently held a lengthy meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin before travelling to Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

His involvement has sometimes kept him away from his family. On Father’s Day, Ivanka acknowledged that Jared was absent because of his work, describing his absence as one “born of purpose.”

At the same time, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee are seeking documents concerning Kushner’s involvement in foreign-policy matters while operating his private-equity business, which has dealings involving foreign governments.

A friend of Ivanka’s, however, portrays Kushner’s role as something he genuinely enjoys.

“Jared is pursuing his passion, which is specifically about Israel, the Jewish people, and peace in the Middle East,” the friend said.

The Albania Resort Controversy

The couple’s business interests have generated a much more contentious reaction in Albania.

Kushner’s Affinity Partners investment firm received approval for plans involving luxury resorts on Sazan Island and the nearby Zvernec Peninsula.

The locations include sensitive coastal environments associated with flamingos, seals and nesting sea turtles.

The proposed development has triggered sustained protests, with demonstrators carrying pink signs and inflatable flamingos in opposition to the plans.

Albanian ecologist Joni Vorpsi criticised the project, telling the Daily Mail that the island belonged to the country and accusing authorities of effectively giving it away to the highest bidder.

The protests have continued in Tirana, where demonstrators have taken to the streets chanting that Albania belongs to Albanians.

The dispute intensified after Ivanka discussed the project during a podcast interview, explaining that she and Jared discovered the island after swimming there from a friend’s boat.

She said they wanted to transform the area while exercising restraint and respecting its natural beauty.

Ivanka Is Not Backing Away

The controversy has raised questions about whether Ivanka has been affected by the backlash.

One person familiar with her position, however, offered a very different assessment.

“She’s not stung by the criticism, it’s just the opposite,” the source said.

“She’s invigorated and can’t wait to unveil the plans.”

The same source said Ivanka believes major projects inevitably face challenges and that critics have not yet seen the complete proposal.

That attitude represents a striking contrast with her withdrawal from electoral politics.

While she has distanced herself from Washington, she appears willing to remain involved in business ventures that attract public scrutiny.

Building a Life in Miami

For now, Ivanka and Jared appear settled in Miami, where they moved after the 2020 election.

Their home is a $24 million waterfront property on Indian Creek Island, an exclusive community often nicknamed the “Billionaire Bunker,” where their neighbours have included Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and Tom Brady.

Away from politics, Ivanka has embraced a highly structured lifestyle.

She has spoken about living according to her own schedule and regularly practises yoga, Pilates and jiu-jitsu.

She reportedly exercises four days a week and often begins her mornings with an ocean swim and meditation.

She also prepares breakfast for her family, drinks fruit shakes containing creatine and walks the family’s dogs, Simba, Winter and Aspen.

Business, Motherhood and a Different Definition of Success

Ivanka has also moved into business projects of her own, including co-founding Planet Harvest, a company focused on reducing food waste.

A source described her summer as particularly active, with time divided between Planet Harvest and her investment portfolio.

The lifestyle is a long way from the political spotlight she occupied as one of the most recognisable members of her father’s first administration.

For someone who grew up in public—from her parents’ highly publicised divorce to modelling, television appearances and eventually the White House—the current emphasis on family, travel, fitness, reading and private business represents a notable change.

Rather than appearing to be preparing for another political chapter, Ivanka’s increasingly visible personal life suggests that she is concentrating on a different kind of ambition: building a life on her own terms while she still has time to enjoy it with her family.
