Claudia Rodriguez, partner of footballer Marc Cucurella, has revealed that she was travelling on a train behind the one involved in Spain’s deadly rail disaster, which has claimed at least 68 lives and left more than 100 people injured.

Rodriguez shared the information in an Instagram post, explaining that she had been travelling towards Malaga when the collision occurred near Toledo.

She said her train was not directly affected because there was considerable distance between it and the train involved in the crash.

“Guys I’m fine, my train hasn’t been affected at all because there was a lot of distance from the train that has suffered the accident,” she wrote.

Train Returned to Madrid After Collision

Rodriguez said passengers on her train were required to return to Madrid because their service was travelling along the same route as the trains involved in the collision.

She described being in shock after realising how narrowly she had avoided being caught up in the disaster.

“I was on the way to Malaga on the train behind,” she wrote in her initial message, offering support to the families and friends of those affected.

In a follow-up post, she reflected on the possibility that her train could have been involved if the accident had occurred later.

“To think that if it happened later it would have happened to my train but please, nothing compared to what the people who did go on that train would have happened,” she wrote.

Rodriguez renewed her condolences to the victims’ families and expressed support for those affected by the tragedy.

Rodriguez Encourages Blood Donations in Madrid

Following the incident, Rodriguez also shared a call for people to donate blood in Madrid to support those requiring medical treatment.

Her family is now based in the Spanish capital after relocating from England following Cucurella’s move from Chelsea during the summer.

Spanish Football Federation Postpones 24 Copa del Rey Matches

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed that 24 Copa del Rey matches scheduled for the week would be postponed as a mark of respect for the victims.

Several LaLiga clubs had also been due to play on Wednesday evening. The federation said revised dates and kick-off times would be announced for the affected fixtures.

“The entire Spanish football community stands united in grief over this tragedy and has made itself available to the authorities to assist the victims of this devastating accident,” the RFEF said in a statement.

Spain has begun three days of official mourning following the collision, which involved a high-speed Renfe train and a stationary train operated by private company Iryo.

More Than 540 Passengers Were on the Two Trains

More than 540 people were travelling on the two trains when the collision occurred.

The force of the impact sent two carriages down a nearby slope, contributing to the destruction at the scene. The disaster has killed at least 68 people and injured more than 100 others.

The collision is among the deadliest railway accidents in Spain’s history. It also comes months after another fatal train crash in the country earlier this year.

Emergency and recovery operations have continued as authorities work to identify victims and assist affected families.

Lamine Yamal and Other Footballers Send Condolences

Several footballers have expressed sympathy for the victims and their families following the disaster.

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal, a candidate for the Ballon d’Or, shared a message of support for those affected by the crash near Urda.

“My solidarity and support to all the families of the victims and those affected by the Urda disaster,” Yamal wrote. “All support and strength to everyone.”

Other members of the football community have also shared condolences as Spain observes its national mourning period.
