Charles Woodson was left joking about his place in Travis Kelce’s inner circle after discovering that two of his FOX NFL colleagues attended the Kansas City Chiefs star’s wedding to Taylor Swift.
The awkward revelation came during FOX NFL Kickoff as Woodson joined host Charissa Thompson and former New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman to preview the new NFL season.
With Kelce preparing to begin his 14th campaign when Kansas City faces the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football, discussion naturally turned toward his headline-making wedding to Swift.
Edelman was quick to reveal that he had attended the ceremony, prompting Woodson to realize that he had apparently been left off the guest list.
Edelman Reveals He Attended the Star-Studded Ceremony
The conversation began when Woodson wondered how much energy Kelce could have after celebrating what has been described as one of the year’s biggest celebrity weddings.
“Travis Kelce, how hungry can he be? He just had the wedding of the century,” Woodson said.
Edelman immediately chimed in with his assessment of the celebration.
“It was a great wedding,” the former Patriots star said.
Woodson appeared surprised by the comment and quickly asked whether Edelman had actually attended.
After Edelman repeated that it had been a great wedding, Woodson turned his attention to Thompson.
“And you went?” he asked.
Thompson, who attended the ceremony alongside her close friend Erin Andrews, attempted to keep the details private.
“It’s not important right now, we signed NDAs,” she joked.
Woodson Jokes About His Missing Invitation
The exchange became even more uncomfortable when Woodson pointed out that he had expected his connection with Kelce to earn him an invitation.
“I thought I had the Ohio connection. I thought I would be the one invited,” said Woodson, who, like Kelce, was born in Ohio.
Thompson responded with another joke, suggesting that Woodson’s invitation may simply have disappeared.
“Your invitation was probably lost in the mail,” she said.
Woodson then looked for an explanation, asking Edelman how many Super Bowl titles he had won.
“Three,” Edelman replied.
“That’s probably why then,” Woodson quipped.
The light-hearted exchange offered a glimpse into the secrecy surrounding Kelce and Swift’s wedding, with the guest list reportedly featuring more than 1,000 people at the Madison Square Garden celebration over the July 4 weekend.
Thompson Was Among the High-Profile Guests
Thompson’s attendance was notable given her longstanding friendship with Kelce, while Andrews was also present at the event.
Thompson was subsequently pictured leaving the rehearsal dinner, adding to the public interest surrounding the private celebrations.
Edelman, meanwhile, was among the former NFL stars who received an invitation, giving him the opportunity to experience the heavily guarded ceremony firsthand.
Woodson’s surprise therefore became one of the more entertaining moments of the FOX NFL Kickoff discussion as his colleagues acknowledged their own involvement without revealing details covered by confidentiality agreements.
Woodson Previously Backed Kelce and Swift’s Relationship
Woodson has previously spoken positively about Kelce’s relationship with Swift, particularly regarding the attention it brought to the NFL.
In an interview in 2023, shortly after the pair began dating, the Hall of Famer said he believed the relationship was beneficial for the league.
He has also maintained that Kelce’s celebrity status should not become a distraction from his football career.
“As long as it doesn’t affect playing, training and regiments – then it is not affecting him as a player,” Woodson said.
“He just keeps doing what he is doing to be a better player, and he is doing that. As soon as it starts to affect that, then you have a problem.”
Woodson added that Kelce appeared determined to establish himself as one of the best players at his position and would continue working hard despite the additional attention surrounding his personal life.
Kelce Calls His Wedding His Best Day
Kelce himself has offered only limited details about the wedding, despite the enormous public interest surrounding his marriage to the pop superstar.
Speaking during training camp, the Chiefs tight end described the wedding as “the best night of my life” and thanked those who attended the celebration.
“It was a fun offseason, man, wedding was the best night of my life and I appreciate everyone who came out and celebrated and had fun with us,” Kelce said.
“That’s about all I really got from that night. It was a crazy night. It was full of a lot of celebration. But it’s football, baby.”
Madison Square Garden Fulfilled a Childhood Dream
Kelce also explained why Madison Square Garden held particular significance for him.
The NFL star said he had always wanted to experience the famous New York venue during a Knicks playoff game but had previously been unable to do so.
“MSG, man. You know, I always told myself I’d go for a playoff game when the Knicks were rocking,” Kelce said.
He noted that Swift had visited the arena while he was occupied with minicamp, but his wedding ultimately gave him the chance to experience the venue in a completely different way.
“So it’s kind of cool to be able to live out my childhood dream of being in that venue, the Mecca of all sports venues, being able to get married in there,” he said.
Kelce also expressed his appreciation to the owners of Madison Square Garden for allowing the couple to hold such a private event at the iconic venue.
“I can’t thank the owners of MSG for allowing us to get the opportunity to do that, knowing we wanted a private event and everything, so it was perfect,” he said.
“And the AC was perfect, man, that’s the best part.”
