Vivo Capital has strengthened its U.S. private equity leadership with the appointment of Neetesh Kumar as Managing Partner, bringing more than three decades of investment experience across private equity, growth equity, venture capital and credit to the healthcare-focused firm.
Neetesh Kumar Joins Vivo Capital Leadership
Kumar will work alongside Vivo Capital’s leadership to co-lead the firm’s buyout and private equity strategy, with a particular emphasis on investments in the U.S. market.
His appointment also comes as the firm moves to establish a stronger presence in New York.
His background spans investment management and technology, positioning him at the intersection of financial markets, emerging technologies and artificial intelligence.
More Than 30 Years Across Private Markets
Kumar joins Vivo from Spruceview Capital Partners, where he was a Partner and most recently served as an Adviser.
During his tenure, he led private markets investments with responsibility for more than $4 billion in assets.
Before Spruceview, he held senior investment positions at J.P. Morgan Chase Retirement Plan, Rho Fund Investors and University of California Investments.
His career also includes roles at growth buyout firms One Equity and Banc One Capital Partners.
The breadth of his experience covers multiple areas of private markets, giving him exposure to different investment strategies and institutional portfolios.
Technology Roots Add Another Dimension
Before moving into investment management, Kumar began his career in technology.
He was part of the founding team of Vetri Systems and later worked as a Manager at Andersen Consulting, the consulting firm now known as Accenture.
That early technology experience has become an important part of his professional background, particularly as artificial intelligence and other technology-driven developments increasingly intersect with investment decisions.
Vivo Expands Its U.S. Private Equity Platform

The firm operates across venture capital, growth equity, buyout and public equities through a multi-fund investment platform.

The firm’s investment activities cover major areas of healthcare, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and healthcare services.
