When discussing the progress of Sabelo Radebe, it’s impossible to overlook the insights of Themba Dlamini, who first spotted Radebe’s potential at the Celta Academy Evaton.
Dlamini, who played a crucial role in Radebe’s early development, has recently shared his perspective on the young midfielder’s current situation at Kaizer Chiefs.
A Promising Start
Dlamini was instrumental in Radebe’s early career, guiding him to join Kaizer Chiefs’ development program.
Radebe’s talent quickly became evident as he impressed with the reserve team in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC).
His performances earned him a spot in the senior squad during the 2020/21 PSL season, where he made his debut.
Struggles at Kaizer Chiefs
Despite his promising start, Radebe has faced challenges in securing regular playtime with Kaizer Chiefs.
Over five seasons, he’s made just 17 appearances across all competitions.
His most notable season was the 2021/22 campaign, where he played 10 games and notched up an assist.
However, his involvement dwindled over the past two seasons, with only three appearances in each.
Dlamini’s Perspective on Radebe’s Situation
Dlamini has voiced his concerns about Radebe’s limited opportunities.
He sees Radebe as one of his standout discoveries and is puzzled by his lack of game time at Kaizer Chiefs.
According to Dlamini, Radebe’s potential remains untapped at the club.
“He’s one of the top talents I’ve ever worked with,” Dlamini shared with FARPost.
“I was thrilled when Chiefs signed him, and he did well in the reserve team.
I envisioned him as the next Doctor Khumalo for the team, especially in that number 10 role.
Unfortunately, things haven’t gone as planned.”
Moving Forward
Dlamini suggests that a loan move might be the best solution for Radebe at this point.
He believes that spending time elsewhere could help Radebe regain his form and confidence, allowing him to shine once again.
“I think it’s time for him to go on loan and find his rhythm at another club where he can play regularly and rebuild his confidence,” Dlamini concluded.
What lies ahead for Radebe remains to be seen, but Dlamini’s insights offer a clear picture of the young midfielder’s potential and the challenges he faces.
