Singapore Airlines has revealed plans for an extensive cabin upgrade featuring what it describes as the largest double bed in commercial aviation, measuring slightly larger than a standard UK king-size mattress.
The new first-class bed, measuring 80 inches by 60 inches (203cm by 152cm), is among the standout features of a £1.2billion investment in the airline’s cabin interiors.
The carrier unveiled the redesigned cabins on Friday, announcing improvements across all four travel classes as part of the most comprehensive overhaul in its history.
Passengers will, however, have to wait until the second half of 2027 before the new interiors enter service.
First-Class Suites Get Oversized Double Bed
The new double bed measures 203cm by 152cm, making it marginally larger than the standard UK king-size mattress, which measures 200cm by 150cm, according to Which?.
Singapore Airlines says the feature will be the largest double bed available on a commercial aircraft.
The bed will include a mattress topper supplied by German luxury bedding company Padaries.
Business Class Introduces Privacy Doors
Business-class passengers will also benefit from several changes, including the introduction of sliding privacy doors, a new feature for the airline.
The redesigned seats will convert into fully flat beds, providing passengers with additional comfort and privacy during flights.
New Entertainment System and Faster Internet
The cabin refurbishment will introduce the next-generation KrisWorld in-flight entertainment system, designed to provide passengers with a more personalised viewing experience.
Among its features are 4K high-resolution touchscreens, OLED displays on selected aircraft, spatial audio technology and Bluetooth connectivity for personal headphones.
The system will also provide access to more than 2,500 entertainment options.
Passengers travelling on Starlink-enabled aircraft will have access to high-speed internet, allowing them to stream content, communicate with friends and family, and carry out work using their personal devices.
More Than 100 New Dishes Added to Menus
Singapore Airlines has also announced more than 100 new and updated dishes across its four cabin classes.
The menu additions include Fusion Harmony Rojak, a popular Singaporean salad prepared with crisp Sakura dried shrimp and Japanese cucumber.
Other offerings include prawn cocktail and poached Maine lobster served with champagne sauce in selected cabin classes.
Economy-class passengers will also have new options, including Cheng Tng jelly, tandoor-roasted paneer with velvet gravy and roasted chicken breast accompanied by black pepper sauce.
Luxury Tableware Introduced for Premium Cabins
Passengers travelling in Suites, First Class and Business Class will be served meals using newly designed tableware.
The serviceware has been developed in collaboration with Christofle, a French luxury tableware company.
The partnership forms part of the airline’s wider effort to update the dining experience across its premium cabins.
SilverKris Lounges and Airport Services Receive Upgrades
The improvements will extend beyond the aircraft, with Singapore Airlines also refreshing its SilverKris lounges at airports around the world, including Singapore Changi Airport, its main hub.
Suites and First Class customers departing from Changi will receive additional personalised ground services.
These include priority immigration and security clearance, as well as access to a dedicated concierge service.
The concierge offering will provide meet-and-greet assistance and buggy transfers within the airport.
