Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, has found himself in trouble once again.
According to Norwegian media reports, this is the second time in just over a month that Høiby has been arrested.
The 27-year-old, who has gained a reputation as the “black sheep” of Norway’s royal family, was taken into custody on Friday night for violating a restraining order.
The Restraining Order and Recent Arrest
This latest arrest comes after Høiby breached a restraining order intended to protect Rebecca Helberg Arntsen.
Høiby had previously admitted to assaulting Arntsen in a drug and alcohol-fueled attack on August 4, which led to his first arrest.
The restraining order was issued after Høiby reportedly contacted Arntsen multiple times following the assault.
On September 7, Høiby allegedly reached out to Arntsen from a blocked number, but he has denied these claims through his lawyer.
Defense attorney Øyvind Bratlien criticized the arrest, calling the evidence “thin” and accusing the police of “reverse discrimination.”
Expanding Charges and Victims
The situation has grown more complex as additional victims have come forward.
Besides Arntsen, three more women have reported incidents involving Høiby.
Two of these women, Juliane Snekkestad and Nora Haukland, are former partners of Høiby.
The Norwegian royal family was already shaken by the news of his first arrest, which occurred after Arntsen was hospitalized from the attack.
Following this, Høiby admitted to the assault in a statement, attributing his actions to mental health issues and long-standing substance abuse problems.
He expressed regret for his behavior and apologized to both Arntsen and his family.
Controversial Phone Call Revealed
New details have emerged, including reported clips from phone calls between Høiby and Arntsen after the assault.
In these calls, Høiby allegedly downplayed the violence and threatened to destroy Arntsen’s belongings if she did not retrieve them from his residence.
These conversations have been part of the ongoing police investigation.
Høiby was held in police custody for 30 hours and faces accusations of bodily harm.
Impact on the Royal Family and Public Perception
Høiby’s actions have cast a shadow over recent royal events.
His arrest occurred just before Princess Martha Louise’s wedding to American Shaman Durek Verrett on August 31.
Although Høiby was initially not expected to attend, his presence at a high-profile wedding in Italy was a source of controversy.
The scandal has led to some Norwegians reassessing their views on the monarchy, with younger generations in particular expressing less tolerance for Høiby’s behavior.
What remains to be seen is how this situation will further impact the royal family and their public image.
