Anthony Martial’s turbulent career has taken another downturn after reports emerged that his contract with Mexican side Monterrey has been terminated one year ahead of schedule.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, both parties have reached an agreement to part ways, bringing a premature end to a deal originally set to run until 2027 with an additional optional year.

The decision follows a difficult spell for the 30-year-old forward, who managed just one goal and three assists in 20 appearances after joining the club last September.

Struggles in Mexico End in Frustration and Fallout

Martial’s time in Mexico never fully settled into consistency, with injuries and off-field tension compounding his on-pitch struggles.

His campaign was interrupted in February when he suffered a dislocated shoulder during a clash with Club León, an incident that saw him stretchered off in visible pain.

His final appearance came in the CONCACAF Champions Cup against Cruz Azul on March 18, marking the end of a brief and underwhelming stint at one of North America’s most prominent clubs.

Training Ground Tensions and Reported Exile

Tensions reportedly escalated further later in the month during Monterrey’s 3–2 defeat to Chivas de Guadalajara.

According to reports from Mexican outlet TUDN, Martial reacted angrily after being left on the bench, with frustration boiling over when a younger player was introduced instead during a second-half substitution.

The incident allegedly led to disciplinary action, with the forward training separately from the main squad for the remainder of the week after staff observed his reaction during the match.

A Career Still Searching for Stability After Old Trafford Exit

Martial’s exit from Monterrey continues a pattern of instability that has followed him since leaving Manchester United.

Signed in 2015 for a then-record fee for a teenager, he arrived at Old Trafford amid huge expectations after a memorable debut goal against Liverpool.

However, his time in England became defined by inconsistency, injuries, and managerial turnover.

While he showed flashes of brilliance, he rarely maintained sustained form across a full season and ultimately left the club with an average goal return hovering just above ten per campaign in all competitions.

Short-Lived Stops in Spain and Greece

After falling out of favour in Manchester, Martial spent a loan spell at Sevilla in 2022, where he struggled to find the net, scoring only once in 12 appearances.

In 2024, he joined AEK Athens on a permanent deal, where he managed a more respectable return of nine goals in 24 matches.

Despite being one of the club’s highest earners, his stay in Greece ended prematurely amid financial and squad-registration complications, including his omission from their Champions League squad.

Another Reset for a Once-Heralded Talent

Martial now finds himself once again at a crossroads, leaving Monterrey with his reputation still marked by unfulfilled potential.

Once viewed as one of Europe’s most promising attacking prospects, his career has instead become a series of brief spells, interrupted progress, and recurring questions about consistency at the highest level.
