The All Blacks are mourning the death of their long-serving Head of Security, Logan Cadwallader, who died following a medical event at the team hotel in Edinburgh on Sunday morning.

The news was confirmed earlier this week, shortly before New Zealand began its November international fixtures.

Cadwallader had been part of the All Blacks setup for 10 years, travelling with the team during that period and becoming a respected member of the players’ and management group.

Coach Dave Rennie Pays Tribute to Trusted Team Member

All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie said the team had struggled to come to terms with Cadwallader’s sudden death.

He described him as a dedicated professional who had earned the trust and affection of players and staff throughout his decade with the team.

“Logan has been a big part of the All Blacks family for a long time. He was the ultimate team man, loved and trusted by all and a true professional,” Rennie said.

“He looked after all of us, players and staff, and he was a good mate to many in this team. We are all devastated.”

Rennie also extended the team’s condolences to Cadwallader’s wife, Nannette, their children, Trey, Brooke and Mia, as well as his wider family and friends.

He said the All Blacks would honour Cadwallader and the legacy he had left within the team.

New Zealand Rugby Recognises His Military Service

New Zealand Rugby also paid tribute to Cadwallader’s service in the New Zealand Defence Force, where he served in the New Zealand Army and the New Zealand Special Air Service Regiment (NZSAS).

His military career included deployments to Bosnia, East Timor, Afghanistan and the Solomon Islands, among other demanding locations.

A statement from New Zealand Rugby said the values he developed through his service to the country were evident in the way he carried out his responsibilities with the All Blacks.

“His service to his country, and the values he carried from it, were reflected in everything he did for the team,” the statement said.

The organisation confirmed that it was providing support to Cadwallader’s family, as well as players and staff affected by his death.

New Zealand Rugby Chief Executive Expresses Condolences

New Zealand Rugby chief executive Steve Lancaster also acknowledged Cadwallader’s contribution to the national team, describing him as a valued and trusted member of its management group over the past decade.

Lancaster said his death would be deeply felt by those who had worked alongside him.

“Logan was a valued and trusted member of the management group over the past decade, and he will be greatly missed by everyone who worked alongside him,” he said.

“On behalf of New Zealand Rugby, I extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends at this very difficult time.”
