Jack Grealish has been omitted from Everton’s squad for their Premier League meeting with Newcastle on Monday night, extending his absence following last week’s disciplinary incident.
The 31-year-old winger was also unavailable for Everton’s Carabao Cup encounter against Newcastle after missing a training session without permission.
The club subsequently confirmed that his omission was due to a breach of club discipline.
Daily Mail Sport understands that Grealish is currently working on his fitness after being excluded from David Moyes’s selection for the cup fixture.
Moyes Backs Everton’s Disciplinary Decision
Everton manager David Moyes supported the club’s decision to leave Grealish out following the team’s 3-1 victory over Newcastle, which secured their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
Speaking after the match on Thursday, Moyes declined to discuss the circumstances surrounding the winger’s absence in detail but made clear that he stood behind the club’s position.
He said: “You probably know I’m not going to give any details, it is a club decision and I support that decision. It is something I don’t want to speak too much about.”
Moyes also highlighted the standards expected of Everton players, praising the squad for maintaining the club’s values both on and off the pitch.
He added that the team had shown the right attitude despite operating with a limited squad and urged the players to maintain their efforts without making excuses.
Winger’s Recent Everton Appearances
Grealish has featured seven times for Everton since returning to the club on a second season-long loan from Manchester City during the summer.
The England international had started four consecutive matches before missing Everton’s 2-0 defeat against Arsenal on October 24. He was reported to be ill at the time.
However, his subsequent absence from training without permission led to disciplinary action from the club.
The winger was reprimanded after failing to attend a scheduled training session last Monday, resulting in his exclusion from the Carabao Cup victory over Newcastle.
His omission from Monday night’s Premier League fixture means he will miss another opportunity to feature for Moyes’s side as he continues working towards regaining his fitness.
