US President Donald Trump has stepped up his appeals to Republican voters ahead of Tuesday’s midterm elections, using social media posts to criticise candidates and promote Republican contenders in key Senate races.
In a post published on Truth Social early Tuesday, Trump attacked Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senate candidate in Michigan, making claims about his views towards different racial and religious groups.
“He Hates Jews and Hates Blacks,” Trump wrote, before adding: “Don’t feel bad, he also Hates Whites. He will, 100%, do you in!”
Trump urged voters to support El-Sayed’s Republican opponent, Mike Rogers.
El-Sayed Faces Criticism Over Position on Israel
El-Sayed has faced criticism over his statements on Israel and the war in Gaza.
He has accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza and has also been accused by critics of denying Israel’s right to exist.
Rogers has received support from former Democratic Senate candidate Haley Stevens, who endorsed him on Sunday after losing to El-Sayed in the party’s primary.
Trump Questions Whereabouts of Alaska Independent Candidate
Trump also directed his attention towards Alaska independent Senate candidate Dan J. Sullivan, describing him as “missing in action”.
“Nobody has been able to find him,” Trump claimed in another Truth Social post.
He added: “Maybe he has been ‘kidnapped’ by the corrupt Dumocrat lawyers??? They are scared stiff of being prosecuted for election fraud!!!”
Allegations About Alaska Candidate Denied
Dan J. Sullivan has been accused of being recruited by Democratic operatives to create confusion in Alaska’s Senate race and draw votes away from Republican Senator Dan Sullivan.
The allegations have been denied by Democratic candidate Mary Peltola’s campaign, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Dan J. Sullivan himself.
Trump’s comments came as voters prepared to cast ballots in the midterm elections, with polling stations scheduled to open at different times across the country.
Midterm Polling Times Vary Across US States
Voting is scheduled to begin at 5am in Vermont, making it the earliest state to open polling stations on Tuesday.
In Michigan, voting is due to start at 7am.
Alaska will be among the last states to close its polling stations, with voting expected to end at around 1am Eastern Time on Wednesday.
