Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has convened a high-level meeting with military commanders, defense officials, intelligence agencies, and senior government representatives to assess battlefield developments, strengthen critical infrastructure protection, and coordinate additional pressure on Russia through sanctions.
According to Zelenskyy, the discussions brought together officials from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Defense Intelligence, and the Presidential Office to address immediate military and national security priorities.
Donetsk Front Remains the Main Operational Focus
A significant portion of the meeting centered on the evolving situation in eastern Ukraine, particularly around the strategically important cities of Kostiantynivka and Slovyansk in the Donetsk region.
Military commanders, including Mykhailo Drapatyi, Ihor Skybiuk, and Yevhenii Khmara, briefed the president on frontline conditions, troop capabilities, operational objectives, and urgent logistical requirements.
Officials also reviewed the immediate need for additional drones and funding to sustain operations, while agreeing on new military measures to be implemented in Donetsk and several other sectors of the front.
Zelenskyy praised Ukrainian forces for their continued resilience and said personnel matters within the Armed Forces were also discussed.
Ukraine Warns of Declining Air Defense Missile Supplies
The meeting also addressed the country’s air defense capabilities amid continued Russian missile and drone attacks.
Zelenskyy said deliveries of anti-ballistic systems from international partners have fallen sharply during 2026.
According to the president, the number of air defense missiles supplied to Ukraine has declined to roughly one-third of 2025 levels, affecting the entire first half of the year rather than only recent months.
He urged partner nations to accelerate political decisions on additional deliveries and expand missile production, including increasing localized manufacturing in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy argued that strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capacity would contribute not only to the country’s security but also to broader international stability.
Government Preparing Measures to Support Economy and Logistics
Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi also presented an update during the meeting, outlining plans to work with representatives of Ukrainian businesses on proposals designed to strengthen the country’s economy and logistics network.
The government intends to introduce measures aimed at improving business operations and maintaining essential supply chains as the war continues.
Kyiv Seeks Greater Economic Pressure on Russia
Beyond military operations, Ukrainian officials reviewed their strategy for increasing economic pressure on Moscow throughout August.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine would continue targeting Russia’s oil infrastructure and refining sector through its long-range capabilities, arguing that increasing the economic cost of the conflict remains a key objective.
He also emphasized the importance of closer coordination with international partners to ensure sanctions reinforce Ukraine’s military efforts.
According to the president, Kyiv plans further discussions with allied nations on additional sanctions measures intended to increase pressure on Russia as the war continues.
