Archangels, the Edinburgh-based angel investment syndicate, has appointed Andrew Sealey as its new Chair, succeeding Ian Macleod in the leadership position.

Sealey, who has been associated with the organisation since its establishment in 1992, has served as a member of its board since 2021.

Sealey Takes Over from Ian Macleod

The appointment marks a change in the syndicate’s board leadership, with Macleod stepping down after serving as Chair since 2022. He joined the Archangels board in 2018.

Sealey brings more than three decades of experience in private capital advisory and investment management to the position.

Extensive Experience in Private Capital Advisory

He currently serves as Non-Executive Chairman of Lazard CL, a division of Lazard established in 2026 following its acquisition of Campbell Lutyens and the subsequent merger with its existing global private capital advisory business.

Sealey joined Campbell Lutyens in 1990 and assumed responsibility for managing the firm in 2003.

He subsequently served as its Chief Executive Officer until 2024, when he stepped down from the executive position to become part-time Chairman.

In addition to his responsibilities at Lazard CL, Sealey serves on the investment committee of Greater Share, a philanthropic private equity investment firm focused on generating financial returns for investors while supporting high-impact non-governmental organisations.

Archangels Invests £27.8m in Scottish Companies

The leadership appointment comes as Archangels continues to provide funding to businesses across Scotland.

In 2026, the syndicate has invested £27.8 million in nine new and existing portfolio companies.

Of this amount, £11.1 million came from its members, while co-investment partners contributed £16.7 million.

Among the businesses receiving backing during the year are Biocaptiva and Bioliberty, both University of Edinburgh spin-out companies.
