Spanish football club CD Tenerife has confirmed the death of striker Jesus de Miguel, who passed away on Tuesday morning after suffering a serious chest injury during a league match against Andorra.

The 30-year-old died at 8:00 a.m. on November 3, 2026, after his condition deteriorated overnight.

He had been receiving intensive care following a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during Monday’s Spanish second-division fixture.

In an emotional statement, Tenerife announced the forward’s death and expressed its condolences to his family, friends and supporters.

The club said: “Broken with pain, with a lump in our throat and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic death, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda.

“There are no words of comfort; There is absolutely nothing to mitigate this feeling full of sadness.

“We are with his devastated family, with his loved ones, with all the people of Tenerife who today mourn this cruel outcome.”

The club added that De Miguel’s family appreciated the messages of support they had received and requested privacy as they mourned his death.

Fatal Collision Occurred During Stoppage Time

The incident happened in the seventh minute of stoppage time during the match between Tenerife and Andorra, with both sides level at 2-2.

De Miguel was attempting to chase a long ball as Tenerife launched a counter-attack in search of a late winning goal when he collided with Owono near the halfway line.

The Andorra goalkeeper appeared to strike the striker in the chest with his knee while attempting to clear the ball.

De Miguel initially rolled on the ground before becoming motionless, prompting medical personnel to rush onto the pitch.

Medical staff attended to the forward for more than five minutes as his team-mates watched in distress.

Several Tenerife players appeared visibly emotional, with some reportedly in tears.

Owono was initially shown a red card for the challenge.

However, the referee subsequently abandoned the match, which ended with the score at 2-2.

Striker Suffered Cardiac Arrest During Emergency Transfer

Spanish media outlet Marca reported that De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest while being transported to hospital and had to be revived inside the ambulance.

The forward was carried from the pitch on a stretcher and taken to an ambulance, with reports indicating that approximately 15 minutes passed before the vehicle departed for the hospital.

The stadium fell silent while medical personnel treated him. Supporters subsequently gave De Miguel a standing ovation as he was taken away from the pitch.

Spanish newspaper AS reported that several of his Tenerife team-mates travelled to the hospital to receive updates on his condition.

Owono Reportedly Deeply Affected by Incident

Andorra goalkeeper Owono was reportedly struggling to come to terms with the incident.

Journalist Ivan Alvarez reported that the goalkeeper was deeply affected by what had happened and intended to apologise to De Miguel’s family privately before making any public comments.

LaLiga president Javier Tebas also issued a message of support following news of the incident.

He initially wrote on social media: “All the strength in the world to Jesús de Miguel.

“We are following the news coming from the island with great attention and trust in his prompt recovery. A huge hug to his family and to CD Tenerife.”

De Miguel Helped Tenerife Secure Promotion

De Miguel joined Tenerife in 2025 and made 30 appearances during which he scored 11 goals.

His contributions helped the club win the Spanish third division title and secure promotion to the second division.

Before joining Tenerife, the striker had also played important roles in promotion campaigns with Internacional de Madrid and CD Castellón, helping the respective clubs move up from the fourth and third divisions.
