Four members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) executive in Osun State have rejected the party’s recently announced Presidential Campaign Council list, calling for an immediate review of its membership.

The executives raised their objections in a statement issued in Osogbo on Tuesday and signed by State Publicity Secretary Wole Adunola, Welfare Officer Adesola Ayangbile, Assistant Organising Secretary Rasheed Adeniji and state ex-officio member Abiola Ololade.

They questioned why several members of the State Working Committee had been left out, arguing that party guidelines provide for their inclusion as statutory members of the council.

Executives Question Exclusion of State Working Committee Members

The four officials said the published list did not adequately reflect established party procedures, consultation requirements and the need to involve recognised stakeholders.

They maintained that the State Executive Committee remained an important part of the APC’s organisational structure and should not be excluded when a statewide campaign council was being formed.

According to the statement, the omission of State Working Committee members raised concerns about due process and respect for the party’s existing leadership arrangements.

The executives said they could not accept the list in its current form because they believed its composition failed to meet the requirements for an inclusive campaign structure.

Disagreement Over Earlier Directive Naming Governor Adeleke

The officials also questioned the campaign council’s leadership arrangements, citing an earlier presidential directive reportedly naming Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke as Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council in the state.

They said Adeleke had subsequently inaugurated a broad-based campaign team to coordinate activities in support of President Bola Tinubu.

The executives questioned why a different structure had since been announced without clarification on how it related to the earlier arrangement.

They suggested that the newly released list might have been intended for a parliamentary campaign council rather than the presidential campaign body.

They said the distinction should be clarified to prevent confusion, overlapping responsibilities and disagreements within the party.

APC Executives Call for Consultation With National and State Leaders

The four officials called for an immediate review of the published list, with consultations involving relevant party stakeholders.

They specifically requested the involvement of APC National Secretary Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru and the State Director-General to ensure that the final arrangement reflected the party’s established structures.

They also urged party leaders at both state and national levels to address the concerns without delay and make the necessary adjustments.

Executives Say Campaign Council Must Promote Party Unity

The signatories said the campaign council should recognise legitimate party leadership, accommodate key stakeholders and bring members together ahead of the 2027 general elections.

They stressed that the party’s campaign efforts would require unity, discipline, coordination and shared responsibility, adding that no recognised stakeholder should be excluded.

Despite rejecting the list, the executives reaffirmed their support for Tinubu’s re-election bid and their commitment to the APC.

They said their objection was specifically directed at the council’s current composition, which they wanted revised to reflect wider participation and respect for the party’s institutional arrangements.

Osun APC Previously Announced 168-Member Campaign Council

The dispute follows the announcement of a 168-member presidential and parliamentary campaign council by the Osun APC.

The Punch previously reported that the structure was established to coordinate support for Tinubu’s re-election campaign and promote other APC candidates contesting the 2027 general elections.

A statement signed by Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal said the council was intended to strengthen the party’s preparations for the elections.

Under the announced arrangement, Bola Oyebamiji, the APC candidate in the August 8 governorship election, was named Director-General of the campaign council, while Lawal was appointed Deputy Director-General.

The newly announced structure is the list rejected by the four party executives, who have called for further consultations and a review of its membership.
