Workplace ergonomics specialist Colebrook Bosson Saunders (CBS) will host a webinar on December 2 focusing on how research can improve collaboration between workplace stakeholders and support better design decisions.
The session, titled Building Relationships Through Research: Research Debt, Shared Curiosity, and What Projects Actually Need, is part of the company‘s Workplace Insight Series.
It will examine how research can help organisations understand the connections between employees, technology and the environments in which they work, particularly as businesses continue to operate across office-based, hybrid and remote working arrangements.
B Sanborn to Lead Discussion on Research Debt
The webinar will be led by B Sanborn, a researcher, anthropologist and environmental psychologist.
Sanborn will discuss the concept of “research debt”, which refers to the consequences of research that overlooks the views of stakeholders or fails to influence decisions during workplace projects.
Drawing on experience in workplace, healthcare and education environments, the session will explore ways of addressing the problem and ensuring research findings contribute to project outcomes.
Interviews and Workshops Among Research Methods to Be Explored
The discussion will cover practical research methods that can help improve communication and cooperation between clients, designers and the people who use workplace environments.
These methods include interviews, workshops, surveys and observation techniques.
The session will examine how gathering information from different stakeholders can help project teams understand workplace requirements and incorporate those findings into design decisions.
CBS Highlights Importance of Understanding How People Work
Steven Souter, insight programme manager at Colebrook Bosson Saunders, said research was important for understanding employees’ working habits, needs and challenges.
He explained that effective workplace ergonomics begins with identifying how people work and the difficulties they encounter, with research helping translate those experiences into informed design decisions.
Souter said the Workplace Insight Series brings together specialist perspectives on ergonomics, technology and wellbeing to help organisations create environments that better support their users.
Workplace Insight Series Covers Ergonomics and Wellbeing
The CBS Workplace Insight Series examines workplace ergonomics through discussions on technology, leadership, inclusion and the physical working environment.
Previous sessions have addressed subjects including digital fatigue, leadership, workplace acoustics and neuroinclusive design.
The December 2 webinar will continue the series’ focus on human-centred approaches to workplace design and the role of research in shaping project decisions.
