Stellenbosch FC CEO Rob Benadie Reveals Decision – Rejects Abha FC’s Offer for Iqraam Rayners

Stellenbosch FC CEO Rob Benadie shed light on the club’s decision to reject Abha FC’s offer for striker Iqraam Rayners.

Abha, led by South African coach Pitso Mosimane, sought Rayners to bolster their goal-scoring capabilities as they strive to avoid relegation.

The urgency of the request is emphasized as Abha inquired just “three to four hours” before the closure of the Saudi transfer window, which was on January 30.

Notably, the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) window had already closed on January 26, creating a time constraint for potential negotiations.

Rejection of a Loan Deal and Rayners’ Understanding

Benadie disclosed that Abha proposed a loan deal instead of a permanent sale for Rayners.

He emphasized the challenge of finding a perfect replacement for their “main” striker.

The rejection of the loan deal was not taken negatively by Rayners, according to Benadie, as the player understood the club’s position.

Benadie hinted at the club’s openness to considering inquiries and offers for the 28-year-old striker at the conclusion of the season.

Future Prospects for Rayners and Stellenbosch FC’s Perspective

Speaking in an interview with FARPost, Benadie expressed optimism about Rayners’ goal-scoring abilities in the second half of the season.

He acknowledged the possibility of renewed interest from Abha FC or other clubs.

The CEO emphasized that the player’s perspective would be considered, stating that if a better opportunity arises for Rayners and his family, discussions about a potential move would take place at the end of the season.

Rayners’ Goal-Scoring Record and Upcoming Match

Rayners, having scored six goals in 20 appearances for Stellenbosch FC this season, remains a crucial asset.

The match is scheduled for Friday night, marking Stellenbosch FC’s first appearance in the new year.
