Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang allegedly had a romantic relationship with a Chinese businesswoman suspected of working for Beijing’s intelligence services, according to a classified US intelligence memo cited by the Financial Times.
The reported relationship has raised concerns among American officials that the billionaire technology executive may have been targeted in a potential Chinese espionage operation involving a so-called honey trap.
The 63-year-old Huang is alleged to have become romantically involved with Alice Huang, an executive at Singapore-based technology company Megaspeed. The pair are not related.
US intelligence agencies reportedly believe Alice Huang was recruited by China’s Ministry of State Security, the country’s principal civilian intelligence agency, to collect information about the Nvidia chief and potentially influence his business decisions.
Classified Memo Details Alleged Relationship
The Financial Times reported that American intelligence officials prepared a classified document earlier this year outlining the suspected romantic relationship.
The memo, which was based on information collected by US intelligence agencies, was reportedly shared with a limited number of senior government officials shortly before President Donald Trump travelled to Beijing in May for discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The latest disclosure goes further than an earlier New York Times report, which revealed that Huang had developed a close relationship with the Chinese businesswoman but did not describe their association as romantic.
It remains unclear whether US intelligence believes Huang knew about the woman’s alleged links to Beijing or whether any confidential information was passed to Chinese officials.
Huang has not been accused of knowingly cooperating with Chinese intelligence, and the alleged romantic relationship has not been independently established.
Photographs Show Pair Together in Taiwan
Huang and Alice Huang were photographed together at a bar in Taipei in June 2024 following a technology trade show.
Images shared on LinkedIn by technology company NetThunder showed the Nvidia chief wearing his trademark black leather jacket while drinking whiskey with other technology executives.
Alice Huang was seated beside him during the gathering.
The pair were reportedly seen together again in May 2025 when they left a Taipei restaurant after attending a dinner involving artificial intelligence suppliers.
According to the New York Times, Alice Huang waited while Jensen Huang spoke with journalists outside the restaurant.
Nvidia has previously rejected suggestions that the executive’s interactions with the businesswoman were unusual.
A company spokesman told the Daily Mail that Huang’s meetings with Alice Huang were consistent with his responsibilities as chief executive of a global technology company.
“Jensen’s interactions with Ms. Huang are not unusual or unexpected,” the spokesman said.
He added that meeting customers was a normal part of the chief executive’s responsibilities, noting that Huang interacts with thousands of customer executives annually.
Nvidia has not commented on the latest allegations or the reported contents of the classified intelligence memo.
Megaspeed Faces Scrutiny Over Nvidia Chip Exports
Alice Huang’s employer, Megaspeed, has also attracted the attention of American authorities over allegations involving restricted semiconductor exports to China.
The Singapore-based company, which is a major Nvidia customer, was established after separating from a Chinese gaming company in 2023.
It subsequently expanded into the artificial intelligence data centre business.
US officials have investigated suspicions that the company helped redirect advanced American-made Nvidia processors into China in breach of export restrictions.
Nvidia previously conducted its own investigation into the allegations and said it found no evidence of wrongdoing.
The company has also maintained that regional cloud customers receive ordinary commercial information rather than confidential corporate material or information relevant to American national security.
According to earlier intelligence reporting, Chinese authorities allegedly recruited Alice Huang to obtain information about US artificial intelligence technology and potentially influence Nvidia’s position on supplying advanced processors to China.
Huang’s Influence Over US-China Chip Policy
The allegations have attracted particular attention because of Huang’s influence over the global artificial intelligence industry and his close relationship with President Trump.
Nvidia, whose market valuation has exceeded $5 trillion, manufactures advanced processors used to develop sophisticated artificial intelligence systems.
Its products have become central to Washington’s efforts to restrict China’s access to technology that could strengthen its military and technological capabilities.
Huang has repeatedly urged the Trump administration to ease restrictions on advanced Nvidia chip sales to China.
He has argued that allowing American companies to compete in the Chinese market would help prevent domestic competitors, including Huawei, from gaining an advantage.
The Nvidia chief also personally lobbied Trump to approve exports of the company’s powerful H200 processors to China, despite opposition from some national security officials.
The administration subsequently permitted certain sales under restrictions, although shipments had reportedly stalled by the time Trump met Xi in May.
Congress Summons Nvidia Chief for Closed-Door Briefing
The intelligence revelations have prompted Republican lawmakers to seek further explanations from Huang.
Congressmen Brian Mast, John Moolenaar and Rick Crawford, who chair three influential House committees, have requested that the Nvidia chief attend a closed-door briefing on November 18.
The lawmakers want to question him about his interactions with Alice Huang and the measures Nvidia has put in place to protect its operations against foreign intelligence activities.
Their request follows earlier reporting by the New York Times that American intelligence agencies had electronically monitored the Chinese businesswoman for at least a year.
Trump was reportedly briefed last year about Alice Huang’s suspected intelligence activities and her relationship with the Nvidia chief but decided against intervening.
Trump Maintains Close Relationship With Nvidia Boss
Despite the reported intelligence concerns, Huang has continued to maintain close contact with Trump.
When the president prepared for his May visit to Beijing, the Nvidia chief was initially left off the list of American business executives accompanying him.
However, Trump reportedly contacted Huang after discovering that he had been excluded.
The billionaire subsequently travelled to Alaska, where he boarded Air Force One during the president’s stopover.
Huang also attended the state dinner Trump hosted for Xi during the Chinese president’s visit to Washington in September.
China has previously rejected the espionage allegations, describing them as unsubstantiated.
