Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is reportedly facing the prospect of losing up to £1 million following the collapse of an investment company linked to his fiancée and her family. The failed business is now at the center of a police fraud investigation after entering administration, leaving investors facing significant financial losses.
Police Launch Fraud Investigation Into Fortress Capital Partners
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that officers are investigating allegations of fraud connected to Fortress Capital Partners after the case was referred by Action Fraud. Detectives from the force’s economic crime unit are examining the circumstances surrounding the company’s operations.
Authorities said no arrests have been made at this stage, and the investigation remains ongoing as officers gather evidence surrounding the firm’s financial activities.
Investors Expected to Recover Only a Fraction of Their Money
Fortress Capital Partners specialized in lending investors’ funds for property-related deals.
However, after the company entered administration in September, administrators from Begbies Traynor revealed that creditors are unlikely to recover most of their investments.
According to the administrators’ assessment, investors are expected to receive only around 10 pence for every £1 they invested, highlighting the scale of the financial damage caused by the company’s collapse.
Administrators Raise Concerns Over Company Finances
Administrators allege that the business used money from new investors to repay earlier debts instead of directing those funds toward new property investments as investors had been led to believe.
Their findings suggest this practice created an estimated overall loss of approximately £3.1 million, with the shortfall ultimately borne by investors who had entrusted their money to the company.
Other Well-Known Investors Also Reportedly Affected
McTominay is not believed to be the only public figure caught up in the firm’s collapse. Reports indicate that singer Shane Lynch and reality television personality Mario Falcone were also among those who invested in Fortress Capital Partners.
The extent of individual losses for other investors has not been officially confirmed.
Firm’s Director Responds as Questions Continue
Ashley Reading, who served as the company’s director, said he is cooperating with the administrators in an effort to secure the best possible outcome for creditors.
He also stated that he was unaware of the Metropolitan Police investigation into the company.
Meanwhile, Cameron Reading, McTominay’s fiancée, has been approached for comment but has not publicly responded.
McTominay Distances Himself From Company’s Operations
A spokesperson for Scott McTominay previously emphasized that the footballer had no role in the management or day-to-day operations of Fortress Capital Partners.
The statement, issued in November, maintained that McTominay was not involved in running the business despite his reported investment.
As investigators continue examining the company’s financial dealings, the administration process is expected to determine how much, if any, investors will ultimately recover from the collapsed firm.
