Two people, including the suspected gunman, have died following a shooting at a Citibank campus in Brandon, Florida, near Tampa, on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident was reported at approximately noon, prompting an emergency response from local law enforcement, paramedics and a SWAT team.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the fatalities as authorities worked to secure the premises.
Suspect Reportedly Entered Building After Vehicle Crash
Scanner traffic from the sheriff’s office indicated that a grey vehicle crashed into the building shortly before a gunman armed with a shotgun and a handgun emerged from it.
One victim was reportedly found wounded and bleeding inside the cafeteria.
The individual later died from injuries sustained during the shooting, according to scanner communications cited by the New York Post.
The suspected shooter also died during the incident, which authorities have described as targeted.
Sources told the publication that the shooting is believed to have involved a vendor rather than Citibank employees.
The identities of those killed have not been released.
Emergency Teams Transport Injured People
Images from the scene showed emergency medical personnel moving stretchers through the campus as they responded to the incident.
One man was photographed strapped to a gurney and being transported away, while another image showed a woman being moved by paramedics.
The circumstances surrounding the injuries and the identities of those transported for medical attention had not been established in the available reports.
Police Evacuate Entire Building
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and a SWAT team conducted a room-by-room evacuation of the building as officers worked to clear the premises.
Citibank employees were instructed to leave the campus and assemble at a designated reunification point in a nearby parking lot.
Authorities also maintained a shelter-in-place measure at nearby Hillsborough College while the emergency response was underway.
Authorities Continue Security Operations
More than 10,000 people work for Citibank in Tampa, including employees based at the company’s 670,000-square-foot corporate centre.
The sheriff’s office said officers were clearing the building and would release further information as it became available.
In an update posted at approximately 2.15pm Wednesday, the agency said personnel were still working to secure and clear the area.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
