Kim Kardashian has faced criticism online after sharing a post-election message that some social media users interpreted as celebrating the Democrats’ success in the US midterm elections, despite her close friendship with Ivanka Trump.
The 46-year-old reality television star and prison reform advocate posted the words “GOOD MORNING AMERICA” on X on Wednesday morning, shortly after Tuesday’s elections saw Democrats make gains in both the House and Senate.
Although Kardashian was referring to her scheduled appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America to promote the second season of her drama series All’s Fair, the brief caption prompted a wave of political reactions.
Several users accused her of being insensitive towards Ivanka, with whom she has developed a close friendship in recent years.
One critic wrote: “Do you think she posted this before or after she checked in on her best friend Ivanka?”
Another commented: “Oh wtf lol it’s comical how you lack the ability to read the room.”
A third user remarked: “You look good but we know you MAGA.”
Another shared a photograph of Kardashian posing with President Donald Trump in 2018, writing: “We didn’t forget, bb.”
Kardashian’s Relationship With Ivanka Trump
Kardashian and Ivanka Trump have maintained a friendship that developed partly through their shared involvement in prison reform initiatives.
Their relationship became more prominent in 2018 when Kardashian visited the White House to advocate for Alice Johnson, who was serving a life sentence following a 1996 conviction involving drug dealing and money laundering.
During the visit, Kardashian spent approximately an hour at the White House, meeting with Jared Kushner and discussing Johnson’s case with President Trump.
Johnson had been convicted after 15 accomplices testified against her and had their own charges dropped.
Despite her limited role in the cocaine operation and the fact that it was her first offence, she received a life sentence.
Following her White House meeting, Kardashian visited the Washington DC residence of Ivanka and Jared Kushner.
Johnson subsequently received clemency and a full presidential pardon.
Kardashian has previously spoken warmly about her relationship with Ivanka, sharing social media posts highlighting their friendship.
Previous Criticism of Kardashian’s Political Associations
Kardashian’s relationship with Ivanka has attracted attention because of her earlier criticism of Donald Trump’s presidency.
In August 2017, she questioned Trump’s ability to lead the country during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar Arabia.
Speaking about the presidency, she said: “Anyone can run the US better. My daughter would be better.”
Her comments came when her daughter North West was four years old.
The television personality has also faced criticism over her close relationships with other wealthy public figures, including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sanchez.
Kardashian Promotes Second Season of All’s Fair in New York
The controversy surrounding her social media post coincided with Kardashian’s promotional activities in New York City for the second season of her Hulu legal drama, All’s Fair.
She stepped out in a fitted burgundy netted dress that highlighted her figure, with a low-cut black bra visible beneath the sleeveless outfit.
The ensemble also featured a white underlay skirt and open-toe transparent heels.
Her dark hair was parted down the middle and styled in a sleek blowout.
Kardashian has been working closely with celebrity stylist Law Roach on her recent public appearances.
For her Good Morning America interview, Roach selected an asymmetric peach-toned dress from Rabanne’s Spring 1989 haute couture collection.
Kardashian Faces Separate Backlash Over Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewellery
Kardashian’s latest public appearances have also drawn attention following criticism over her opportunity to wear jewellery once owned by the late actress Elizabeth Taylor.
While in Rome for work last month, the reality star visited a Bulgari store, where she was allowed to view and try on Taylor’s emerald and diamond necklace.
The necklace and matching earrings were gifts from Taylor’s former husband, Richard Burton, for her 30th birthday.
Given the value and delicate condition of the jewellery, a store employee wore white gloves while handling the pieces.
Kardashian subsequently shared footage and photographs from the visit with her Instagram followers, describing the experience as a personal dream come true.
She wrote: “I remember talking to her before she passed away and asked all about these jewels and the stories behind them.
Thank you @luxurylaw and @bvlgari for making all of my wildest dreams come true.”
However, the post also attracted negative reactions, with one social media user commenting: “Elizabeth Taylor just rolled over in her grave.”
