Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reported that Russian forces carried out an intense wave of attacks across Ukraine over the past week, targeting at least 16 regions with a combination of drones, missiles, and aerial bombs.
According to Zelenskyy, Russia launched approximately 1,900 drones, nearly 1,600 guided aerial bombs, and 144 missiles of various types, including ballistic missiles, underscoring the scale of the sustained bombardment.
Civilian Casualties Continue to Rise
The latest attacks have resulted in civilian deaths and injuries in several parts of the country. In the city of Brovary, a Russian drone strike killed one person and wounded six others.
Zelenskyy extended his condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.
Elsewhere, the northeastern Sumy region was struck by aerial bombs, adding to a series of attacks that have continued to affect civilian communities across Ukraine.
Frontline and Southern Regions Face Ongoing Bombardment
Zelenskyy said Kharkiv and the surrounding region remain under relentless assault, with Russian strikes continuing on a regular basis.
Overnight attacks also targeted the Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipro regions, highlighting the broad geographic scope of the latest offensive.
The Ukrainian leader emphasized that the repeated attacks are placing significant pressure on communities far beyond the immediate front lines.
More Than 1,500 Sites Reportedly Damaged
According to Ukrainian authorities, over 1,500 locations were damaged during the week’s attacks. The destruction included hundreds of residential buildings, further impacting civilians and local infrastructure.
The reported damage reflects the continuing humanitarian toll as residential neighborhoods remain among the areas affected by Russia’s aerial campaign.
Zelenskyy Calls for Tougher Sanctions on Russia’s Defense Industry
In response to the sustained attacks, Zelenskyy argued that international sanctions have not yet gone far enough in restricting Russia’s military production capabilities. He said many Russian enterprises involved in manufacturing components for drones, missiles, and guided bombs continue to operate without sufficient penalties.
The president warned that Russia is increasing investment in its ballistic missile capabilities while expanding weapons production, making it essential for international partners to intensify economic pressure.
Ukraine Urges Greater International Pressure
Zelenskyy stressed that expanding sanctions across every part of Russia’s defense-industrial sector would help reduce Moscow’s capacity to produce the weapons used in attacks on Ukrainian cities.
He concluded by thanking governments and partners supporting sanctions efforts, saying stronger and more effective restrictions remain essential to limiting future strikes and protecting Ukrainian civilians.
