Russia’s Foreign Ministry has sharply criticized what it described as Ukrainian drone attacks targeting oil tankers operating near the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) marine terminal in Novorossiysk.
In a statement issued by Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, Moscow accused Kyiv of carrying out attacks against civilian energy infrastructure and warned that such incidents threaten international energy security.
Foreign-Flagged Vessels Reportedly Targeted
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the attacks occurred during the night of July 30 and involved foreign-flagged vessels crewed by international personnel.
The ministry cited information from the Caspian Pipeline Consortium stating that the ships had been chartered by foreign suppliers involved in transporting Kazakh oil.
Among the companies referenced was Tengizchevroil, a major energy producer in Kazakhstan in which U.S.-based Chevron holds a stake.
Operations Temporarily Suspended After Incident
Russian officials said the attacks did not result in casualties, describing the lack of injuries as fortunate given the circumstances. They added that fires caused by the incident were extinguished quickly and that no oil spill was reported.
However, the ministry said the Caspian Pipeline Consortium was forced to temporarily halt oil loading operations following the reported strikes, disrupting activity at one of the region’s major energy export terminals.
Moscow Says Attacks Threaten International Energy Security
The Foreign Ministry argued that repeated attacks on Black Sea energy infrastructure are affecting not only Russia but also the economic interests of countries and companies involved in regional oil exports.
The statement claimed that continued strikes against international energy assets risk undermining broader global energy supply chains.
Russian officials further asserted that the reported attacks demonstrate what they described as an increasingly dangerous approach by the Ukrainian leadership, accusing Kyiv of escalating the conflict despite ongoing diplomatic discussions.
Calls for International Response
Zakharova said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has repeatedly raised concerns about what Moscow characterizes as threats posed to international energy infrastructure during diplomatic engagements.
The statement also called on the United States, which Russia said has influence over Kyiv, to respond to the reported incidents.
In addition, Moscow urged the United Nations and other international organizations to publicly address the attacks, arguing that failing to do so would amount to tacit acceptance of further strikes.
Claims Remain Part of the Ongoing Information Dispute
The allegations outlined in the statement originate from Russia’s Foreign Ministry and reflect Moscow’s position on the reported events.
Ukrainian authorities had not issued a corresponding response to the specific claims at the time of the statement, and the reported attacks and their circumstances could not be independently verified.
