The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba and the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to take immediate action in inviting, investigating, and probing former Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa.
Bulkachuwa’s Controversial Statements
Bulkachuwa had recently made remarks disclosing that he frequently influenced the decisions of his wife, former President of the Court of Appeal, Zainab Bulkachuwa, during her tenure.
He made these statements during the Senate Valedictory Session, acknowledging his encroachment upon his wife’s independence.
Outrage and NBA’s Response
Bulkachuwa’s comments sparked outrage among Nigerians, both on social media and offline.
The NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau, issued a statement after a National Judicial Council (NJC) meeting, condemning Bulkachuwa’s speech and conduct as despicable and disgusting.
Maikyau stated that Bulkachuwa’s remarks directly attacked the judiciary.
NBA’s Action and Accusation of Perverted Justice
Maikyau announced that he would write a letter to the IGP and the ICPC Chairman, urging them to initiate an investigation into Bulkachuwa’s conduct.
The NBA President accused the former senator of perverting the cause of justice with his actions.
