Lead Counsel Dismissal Claim for IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu Denied by Lawyer, Calls Accusations Defamatory

…By Dorcas Funmi for TDPel Media. The claim that Mike Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), was removed as the lead counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been refuted by his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor.

Earlier, Kanu’s brother, Kingsley Kanu, known as Kanunta Kanu, had announced Ozekhome’s removal from the legal team, alleging that he had hindered Kanu’s access to his personal physicians for an urgent ear surgery.

In response, Ejiofor labeled Kanunta’s statement as defamatory and unauthorized, stating that it was meant to ridicule and undermine Kanu’s legal team.

Limiting Public Updates and Mischievous Actions

Ejiofor further explained that due to attempts to disrupt their work, the legal team had decided to reduce the information made public through regular updates.

He clarified that routine visits and meetings with Kanu would not be frequently disclosed unless there were compelling reasons to do so.

Ejiofor emphasized that certain discussions held during visits, including the meeting on June 3, 2023, were not publicized due to their sensitive nature.

He reassured the public that relevant individuals were adequately informed about the outcomes.

Denying Kingsley Kanu’s Authority and Ozekhome’s Engagements

Ejiofor strongly affirmed that neither Kingsley Kanu nor Emmanuel Kanu had ever tasked him with handling Nnamdi Kanu’s case or any IPOB matters.

He stated that the engagement letters he received from Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB in 2015 were still in his possession.

Ejiofor made it clear that Kingsley Kanu or anyone acting on his behalf did not engage Mike Ozekhome to represent Nnamdi Kanu.

He reminded the public that Nnamdi Kanu specifically requested to see Ozekhome upon his abduction and rendition to Nigeria and personally briefed him to lead his legal team.

Ejiofor expressed his confidence in Ozekhome’s remarkable representation of Nnamdi Kanu in Nigerian courts.

Preemptive Actions and DSS Clearance

Ejiofor noted that Kingsley Kanu’s publication, made just minutes before a scheduled visit, was an attempt to preempt any potential revelation after the visit.

He assured the public that, out of respect for Nnamdi Kanu, he did not intend to make any such revelations.

Ejiofor further explained the process of submitting names for visits to Nnamdi Kanu, which involved prior clearance by the Department of State Services (DSS).

He refuted the claim that Nnamdi Kanu had dismissed his legal team and emphasized that the public should disregard Kingsley Kanu’s defamatory notice.

Kingsley Kanu’s Falsehood Exposed

Ejiofor revealed Kingsley Kanu’s plot to spread false information and discredit Kanu’s legal team led by Ozekhome.

He assured the public that such strategies would fail and that the legal team was tirelessly working for Nnamdi Kanu’s unconditional release.

Ejiofor conveyed Nnamdi Kanu’s gratitude to his supporters and urged them to remain steadfast and unwavering in their prayers.

He also clarified that the medical doctors who visited Kanu were not there to perform surgery but to consult with Ozekhome and engage in administrative matters, as agreed during their meeting with the DSS.

Assurance and Vigilance of Nnamdi Kanu’s Legal Team

Ejiofor affirmed that Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team, under the leadership of Mike Ozekhome, is closely monitoring the situation around him.

He reassured Biafrans that they should not be alarmed and emphasized that they were well ahead of any evil plans against Kanu.

Ejiofor expressed confidence that Nnamdi Kanu would emerge from the custody of the DSS strong and unbroken.
