The $10.2 million Lexus Melbourne Cup was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, marking the 166th running of Australia’s historic horse race.

Held annually since 1861, the event is widely known as the race that stops a nation and attracts significant attention both on and off the track.

Ahead of the race, international music star Robbie Williams was scheduled to perform as the Melbourne Cup trophy arrived at Flemington.

Organisers described the performance as the biggest pre-Cup entertainment show ever staged at the racecourse, featuring some of the singer’s biggest hits and a full cast of backing dancers.

The famous Birdcage was also expected to welcome several high-profile guests, including Lexus ambassadors Emma Freedman and Kate Waterhouse, alongside Olympians Peter Bol, Harry Garside and Cooper Woods at Crown.

Other expected attendees included premiership players Hugh McCluggage and Connor McKenna at TAB, television personality Scott Cam and Olympic swimmer Ariarne Titmus at Nine, and former Carlton player Marc Murphy with his wife Jessie at G.H. Mumm.

Fashions on the Field Returns With New Pavilion
