South African musician and television presenter Molemo Maarohanye, widely known as Jub Jub, has been arrested after an incident involving an e-hailing driver and his girlfriend at a residence in Edenvale.

The media personality, best known for hosting the reality television programme Uyajola 9/9, is facing multiple charges and is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.

Early-Morning Incident Leads to Criminal Charges

According to police, the arrest followed an altercation that unfolded during the early hours of Sunday morning after an e-hailing driver dropped off a woman at Maarohanye’s home.

Authorities allege that the television presenter suspected the driver of having a romantic relationship with his girlfriend.

The confrontation reportedly escalated, resulting in serious accusations that have now led to criminal proceedings.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed that investigators are pursuing charges of kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice, and discharging a firearm in a public place.

Driver Reportedly Escaped Unharmed

Investigators claim the driver was allegedly forced into a vehicle and prevented from leaving during the confrontation.

Police further allege that a firearm was discharged during the incident and that shots were fired in the direction of the driver.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, authorities said the driver was not injured.

After escaping the situation, the driver reportedly went directly to a nearby police station, where the matter was reported and an investigation was launched.

Court Appearance Scheduled

Following his arrest, Maarohanye is expected to make his first court appearance at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The case has already attracted significant public attention due to the entertainer’s high profile and the irony surrounding the allegations.

As host of Uyajola 9/9, a programme focused on exposing infidelity, he has built a public image around investigating cheating partners.

The latest accusations have therefore generated widespread discussion across social media and entertainment circles.

Legal Troubles Have Followed the Star for Years

The arrest is the latest chapter in a series of legal controversies that have surrounded the musician over the years.

In 2022, actress and television personality Amanda du Pont publicly accused Maarohanye of rape and domestic abuse, allegations she said stemmed from their past relationship.

Several other women, including journalist Masechaba Ndlovu, later made similar claims.

The accusations led to a lengthy legal process that saw Maarohanye surrender to police after an arrest warrant was issued.

Previous Charges Were Ultimately Withdrawn

In 2024, South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority decided to withdraw charges that included rape, attempted murder, and assault.

Prosecutors stated at the time that there was insufficient evidence to provide a reasonable prospect of securing a successful conviction in court.

The decision brought an end to one of the most closely watched legal cases involving the entertainer, although it did not end public debate surrounding the allegations.

Fatal Drag-Racing Case Remains Part of Public Memory

Long before his recent legal battles, Maarohanye became the focus of national attention following a fatal drag-racing incident in 2010.

He was initially convicted of murder and attempted murder after a crash that killed four schoolchildren and injured others.

A court handed down a lengthy prison sentence, but the case later took a dramatic turn on appeal.

The Supreme Court of Appeal overturned the murder convictions, replacing them with culpable homicide after ruling that prosecutors had not proven intent to kill.

The revised judgment significantly reduced his prison term.

Career Once Again Overshadowed by Controversy

After serving part of his sentence, Maarohanye was released on parole in 2017 and later returned to the public eye through television and entertainment projects.

Now, with fresh criminal allegations before the courts, the spotlight has once again shifted from his media career to legal proceedings.

Authorities have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors prepare for his scheduled court appearance.
