The Israel Defense Forces announced that a senior Hamas military commander accused of playing a central role in the October 7 attacks has been killed in Gaza.
According to the IDF, Imad Hassan Hussein Aslim, identified as the deputy commander of Hamas’ Gaza Brigade and commander of the Zeitoun Battalion, was eliminated during recent military operations in the enclave.
Israeli officials claimed Aslim was directly involved in coordinating the infiltration of militants into southern Israel during the October 7 assault, which triggered the ongoing war in Gaza.
The military also accused him of overseeing and advancing multiple planned attacks targeting Israeli soldiers in recent months.
The IDF described Aslim as a key operational figure within Hamas’ military wing, saying his role extended beyond battlefield command to organizing future offensives against Israeli forces operating inside Gaza.
Israel Accuses Hezbollah Operatives of Targeting Major Lebanese Infrastructure
In a separate statement, the Israeli military said it had uncovered what it described as an attempt by Hezbollah operatives to sabotage the Qaraoun Dam in Lebanon earlier this week.
The Qaraoun Dam is considered one of Lebanon’s major infrastructure sites and plays an important role in the country’s water and energy systems.
Israeli officials warned that damage to the facility could cause severe economic consequences and deepen Lebanon’s existing internal crises.
The IDF alleged that Hezbollah members were seen attempting to damage the strategic site, accusing the Iran-backed group of endangering Lebanese national interests.
Israeli military officials argued that Hezbollah’s actions could have led to widespread destruction and further instability inside Lebanon, which is already struggling with economic collapse and political turmoil.
Israel Holds Lebanese Authorities Responsible
The Israeli military also directed criticism toward the Lebanese state, saying the government bears responsibility for protecting strategic infrastructure and preventing armed groups from exploiting such locations.
The statement added that Israel expects Lebanese authorities to prevent Hezbollah from operating around sensitive national facilities, warning that attacks on critical infrastructure could escalate tensions across the border.
The accusations come amid continued hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah along the Israel-Lebanon frontier, where near-daily exchanges of fire have raised fears of a broader regional conflict.
