Expectant Mother Diagnosed with Stage Three Cancer: A Courageous Fight for Her Baby

Hannah Williams, a 29-year-old mum-to-be, received devastating news just two months after discovering her pregnancy.

Struggling to breathe and initially assuming it was a chest infection, she was diagnosed with stage three cancer in June.

Despite the challenging circumstances, Hannah remains positive and determined to do everything in her power to give her baby a chance at life.

A Positive Outlook and Unwavering Determination

Hannah, an eyelash technician running her own business, shared her perspective on the situation with the Liverpool ECHO.

She firmly believes that everything happens for a reason and feels confident in her strength, youth, and fitness to fight the disease.

Being pregnant, she acknowledges that time is of the essence, but she is resolute in her decision to carry her baby to term, regardless of the outcome.

A Series of Medical Visits and Discovery of the Mass

Hannah’s ordeal began when she sought medical attention for minor chest pain at Liverpool A&E in June.

Initially diagnosed with pneumonia, she was not prescribed antibiotics due to her pregnancy.

However, her condition worsened rapidly, and she found it increasingly difficult to perform daily tasks.

Multiple visits to doctors followed, and another chest X-ray still indicated pneumonia.

After further complications and a CT scan, it was revealed that she had a serious mass on her left lung.

Facing Tough Choices and Pursuing Treatment

Within 24 hours of the diagnosis, Hannah was undergoing urgent chemotherapy.

Despite being presented with the option to terminate her pregnancy due to the possible effects of the treatment, she chose to proceed with her pregnancy, determined to give her baby, named Nova, a fighting chance.

Hannah has already begun chemotherapy and had fluid removed from her left lung to alleviate the pressure.

Despite enduring excruciating pain, she can only take limited medication to protect her unborn child.

Support from Friends and Struggles with Finances

Hannah’s cancer diagnosis forced her to put her beauty business on hold.

Natalie Myles, a friend of Hannah, set up an online fundraiser to support her financially during this challenging time.

Hannah’s focus remains on her baby’s well-being and fighting the illness. She expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support and generosity shown by friends and strangers alike.

A Future Focused on Helping Others

Looking ahead, Hannah aspires to become a nurse and provide support and care to as many people as possible.

Her experiences with healthcare professionals during this trying period have inspired her and highlighted the invaluable work done by nurses.

Despite the upheaval her life has undergone in just four weeks, Hannah’s resilience and the support of her friends have been pillars of strength.

Her determination to fight for her baby’s life and her unwavering positive outlook are testaments to her remarkable spirit.

As she continues her treatment at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, her friends and supporters rally around her, providing both emotional and financial aid during this challenging journey.
