China Says Beijing and Moscow Will Oppose Any Japanese Move Toward Nuclear Weapons…
China and Russia will firmly oppose any attempt by Japan to acquire nuclear weapons, according to Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui, who said the two countries remain committed to preserving what they describe as the foundations of the post-World War II international order.
Writing in an article for TASS, Zhang said Beijing and Moscow share concerns about developments in Japan’s security and defense policies and intend to coordinate their positions on the issue.
Concerns raised over Japan’s military direction
The ambassador argued that both China and Russia believe it is necessary to remain vigilant regarding what he described as Japan’s accelerated remilitarization.
According to Zhang, Moscow and Beijing view any potential movement toward nuclear weapons capabilities by Japan as a matter requiring strong opposition.
He emphasized that the two countries consider the outcomes of World War II and the international framework established afterward to be settled and non-negotiable.
Historical legacy remains central issue
Zhang said preserving the historical record of World War II remains a priority for both governments.
He warned against allowing what he called historical truths to be forgotten or the principles of justice established after the war to be weakened.
The diplomat maintained that the post-war international order continues to serve as a foundation for global stability and should be protected from revisionist interpretations.
Beijing and Moscow seek broader international support
Beyond their bilateral cooperation, China and Russia are also looking to work with other countries that share similar views on historical and legal issues related to the Second World War.
Zhang said the two nations are prepared to strengthen cooperation with governments that support international law and what he described as historical justice.
According to the ambassador, such cooperation would focus on defending established interpretations of wartime history, preserving peace and preventing any resurgence of militarism.
Call for a more balanced global order
The Chinese envoy also linked the issue to broader international affairs, arguing that efforts to maintain peace and historical accountability should contribute to the creation of a more equitable global system.
He said China and Russia aim to support the development of what he described as a fairer and more reasonable international order while safeguarding the peace established after World War II.
The remarks reflect ongoing strategic coordination between Beijing and Moscow on regional security issues and their shared concerns regarding military developments in East Asia.
