Bain Capital Ventures has completed the fundraising for its latest early-stage investment vehicle, securing $1.6 billion as the firm looks to back companies working across artificial intelligence, security and emerging technology markets.

The San Francisco-based investment firm said its new vehicle, Bain Capital Ventures Fund XI, attracted commitments from Bain Capital partners, employees and related entities, as well as institutional investors including pension funds, endowments and foundations.

New Fund Targets AI and Emerging Technologies

Fund XI will focus on early-stage companies operating in several areas that BCV has identified as key areas of opportunity.

Its investment strategy includes AI infrastructure, physical artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and technology-enabled services.

The firm said the strategy is designed to provide capital at the formation stage of companies seeking to establish new categories or reshape existing ones.

BCV Maintains Focus on Early-Stage Investments

The latest fund continues an approach that has placed a substantial portion of BCV’s capital into companies at relatively early stages of development.

Its previous vehicle, Fund X, was raised in 2023, with more than 82 percent of its total investment dollars directed toward Pre-Seed, Seed, Series A or Series B financing rounds.

That approach has allowed BCV to build a portfolio spanning several technology and healthcare segments, including infrastructure, applied AI, physical AI, healthcare and AI-focused services.

Portfolio Includes Emerging AI Companies

Among the companies backed by BCV are infrastructure businesses such as Crusoe and Poolside, while its applied AI investments include Cognition, Decagon and Legora.

The firm’s physical AI portfolio includes Atoms and Sunday Robotics.

In healthcare, BCV has invested in Loyal and Forus, while its AI services investments include Crosby Legal and Norm.

BCV said the strategy reflects the ambitions of AI-native founders seeking to develop and expand the capabilities of the businesses they are building.

Bain Capital Continues Global Investment Strategy

Bain Capital, which was founded in 1984, operates across five primary investment areas: Private Equity, Growth & Venture, Capital Solutions, Credit and Real Assets.

The wider firm has more than 2,000 employees working across 24 offices on four continents and manages approximately $225 billion in assets.

The new $1.6 billion venture fund adds another substantial pool of capital to Bain Capital’s investment platform, with its mandate specifically focused on backing companies during the early stages of their development.
