Russian specialists have allegedly developed a new electronic warfare capability designed to interfere with Starlink satellite communications used to operate Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), according to battlefield reports circulating on military-linked channels on 16 June 2026.

The system is said to target satellite-based control links that have become central to drone operations, potentially affecting the effectiveness of UAVs relying on continuous high-bandwidth connectivity.

“Volna Kupol Garant” Allegedly Targets Satellite Channels

Ukrainian military technology adviser Serhii Beskrestnov, known by the callsign “Flash,” was among the first to publicly describe the system, claiming it has been observed in use against Starlink-dependent drone operations.

According to his account, the system—reportedly referred to as “Volna Kupol Garant”—is built on multiple trailer-mounted platforms fitted with satellite antennas.

These units are allegedly directed toward specific orbital satellites to generate concentrated electronic interference.

Beskrestnov explained that Starlink communication links operate within the 14–14.5 GHz frequency range, split into multiple channels.

He claimed the Russian approach involves using several antenna arrays, each tasked with jamming a separate channel, effectively overwhelming the satellite’s reception capabilities.

In his words, the coordinated interference can render the satellite “blind,” disrupting communication between orbit and ground terminals.

Claims of Tactical Impact Along Key Supply Routes

Military analysts and observers have suggested that the reported system may already be influencing battlefield logistics and drone activity in contested regions.

Russian military commentator Alexei Zhivov argued that recent changes in Ukrainian drone effectiveness could be linked to the introduction of new countermeasures.

He pointed to reports that fuel convoys previously targeted by UAV strikes along the Novorossiya highway are now reaching operational zones without reported disruption.

Zhivov suggested that the timing of this shift indicates the deployment of protective electronic warfare systems along key routes, though independent verification of these claims remains limited.

Reported Coverage Area and Strategic Deployment

Preliminary assessments shared by military-affiliated Telegram channels claim that a single installation could affect communications across an area of roughly 20 square kilometers.

This potential range has raised concerns about its use in protecting strategic logistics corridors.

Sources cited in these reports indicate that systems may have been positioned to shield transport routes supplying Russian forces, prompting attempts by opposing forces to locate and neutralize the relatively conspicuous trailer-mounted equipment.

Possible Broader Implications for Drone Warfare

If the system functions as described, analysts suggest it could have significant implications for modern battlefield drone operations, particularly those reliant on satellite internet connectivity for real-time control and targeting.

The Telegram channel Voennyy Osvedomitel noted that widespread deployment of effective Starlink-jamming technology could reduce the effectiveness of medium-range Ukrainian drone strikes, which depend heavily on uninterrupted satellite communications.

However, as with many electronic warfare claims emerging from active conflict zones, the exact capabilities and operational effectiveness of the system remain unverified by independent sources.
