A devastating road collision on the N4 toll route in Mpumalanga has left eight people dead after a minibus taxi and a truck collided near Waterval Onder on Tuesday morning.
The crash, which occurred on a busy stretch between Ngodwana and Waterval Onder in the direction of Waterval Boven, has once again raised urgent concerns about road safety on South Africa’s national highways.

Emergency responders confirmed that eight occupants of the minibus taxi lost their lives in the impact, while one additional person sustained critical injuries and was rushed for urgent medical care.

Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson Moeti Mmusi confirmed that the exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

“At this stage, the cause of the crash is unclear. An investigation is under way at the scene.
More details will be communicated later,” Mmusi said.
