UNIPORT Student’s Family Seeks Justice in the Wake of Tragic Murder

The devastating incident involving the alleged murder of a female student from the University of Port Harcourt, Justina Otuene, has sparked an urgent call for justice from her grieving family.

This tragic event unfolded when Otuene was reportedly killed at her boyfriend’s residence in Ozuoba, located in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

On Thursday, the police made a public announcement regarding the arrest of the suspected perpetrator, who was paraded alongside another student from the same university, Damian Chinemere, a 400-level student of Petrochemical Engineering.

This heinous crime has sent shockwaves through the community, leading to heightened concerns about the safety of young women.

In response to the heart-wrenching loss of their daughter and sister, the family of the victim has stepped forward to demand justice for Justina Otuene.

In a press conference held in Port Harcourt, the elder brother of the deceased, Osas Otuene, expressed the family’s profound devastation and desire for legal redress.

Osas, who is also a 500-level undergraduate studying Chemical Engineering at the same institution, emphasized that there may be other individuals involved in the crime and stressed the importance of allowing the law to run its course.

For the Otuene family, justice is not just a matter of holding the primary suspect accountable but also ensuring that all those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice.

Justina was the only daughter in the family, and her tragic demise has had a profound impact, especially given the loss of their father.

While their mother remains alive, she is understandably distraught, and the family’s plea for justice reflects the pain they are enduring.

Additionally, the Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Port Harcourt, Chima Wokocha, conveyed the institution’s commitment to seeing justice served.

The Vice Chancellor, Georgewill Owunari, has called upon the police to do everything in their power to ensure that the case is thoroughly investigated and that justice prevails.

In light of this incident, the university is also concerned about its reputation and aims to address this matter firmly.

Wokocha urged parents and guardians to play an active role in guiding and advising their wards, particularly in steering them away from the allure of quick wealth and the complexities of modern relationships.

He expressed concern about the shift in attitudes towards relationships among young people and emphasized the need for guardians to exercise vigilance and promptly report any concerning behaviors to the appropriate authorities.

The call for justice in this tragic case is not only a pursuit of legal accountability but also a cry for a safer and more responsible society.

The family’s demand for justice, coupled with the university’s commitment to uphold the law, highlights the importance of addressing such issues comprehensively and preventing similar tragedies in the future.
