Trump Sends Hyperliquid Token HYPE Soaring as US Regulators Explore Legal Path for American Market Access

Hyperliquid’s native HYPE token jumped sharply after US President Donald Trump indicated that federal regulators are working toward a legal and compliant framework that could eventually allow the decentralized trading platform to serve American users.

HYPE was trading near $62 before Trump spoke at a White House event on Wednesday.

The token then climbed rapidly, reaching an intraday high of $72.28, according to CoinGecko.

It later eased back toward $70, still leaving it roughly 20% higher over the previous 24 hours.

Trading activity also surged, with daily volume reaching approximately $1.4 billion.

Trump specifically pointed to Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chair Michael Selig, saying he understood that Selig was working on bringing Hyperliquid into the United States “in a fully compliant and legal fashion.”

Potential US Access Becomes a Major Market Catalyst

The comments immediately gave investors a new reason to reassess Hyperliquid’s growth prospects.

A compliant US launch would potentially give the decentralized trading platform access to one of the world’s most important cryptocurrency markets.

For HYPE holders, the prospect raises expectations that greater US participation could translate into increased liquidity, trading activity and demand for the token.

However, the regulatory picture remains incomplete.

Neither the CFTC nor Hyperliquid has publicly released a detailed framework explaining how American access would operate.

There has also been no formal announcement confirming that a specific application has been submitted or establishing a launch date for a compliant US service.

That leaves investors reacting primarily to Trump’s remarks rather than to a finalized regulatory decision.

Hyperliquid Treasury Company Shares Also Surge

The excitement extended beyond HYPE itself.

Shares of Nasdaq-listed Hyperliquid Strategies, which trades under the ticker PURR, finished Wednesday at $9.39, representing a gain of about 30.4%, according to Yahoo Finance.

Despite its name and focus on holding HYPE, the company has emphasized that it operates independently and is not affiliated with the Hyperliquid protocol.

The sharp move in PURR shares has nevertheless highlighted how developments surrounding the token could affect publicly traded companies whose investment strategies are closely tied to HYPE.

Unusual PURR Options Activity Draws Attention

Trading in PURR options also attracted scrutiny after an unusually large transaction was reported shortly before Trump’s comments.

According to CNBC, an unidentified trader spent approximately $65,000 on 719 October call options carrying an $8 strike price.

The contracts were reportedly purchased for around $0.90 each and were due to expire in mid-October.

By Wednesday’s close, those options were quoted around $2.45, putting the position’s market value at approximately $176,000 and creating an unrealized gain of roughly $111,000.

The timing of the transaction has naturally prompted questions about whether the trader anticipated a catalyst.

Market Data Shows the Options Surge Was Unusual

Available market data confirms that PURR options experienced unusually heavy activity during the session.

OptiView data showed that 2,575 October $8 calls changed hands, compared with only 67 contracts in open interest before the session began.

Trading volume was also more than 140 times the contract’s 30-day average.

Those figures demonstrate an exceptional increase in activity, but they do not establish who placed the reported trade or why it was made.

There is currently no clear evidence that the options purchase involved insider trading or access to confidential information.

The timing alone is not sufficient to establish wrongdoing.

Regulators Have Already Met With Hyperliquid Representatives

The regulatory connection is also not entirely new.

The CFTC had previously disclosed a July 15 meeting involving Hyperliquid Labs and Hyperliquid Strategies.

That disclosure provides evidence that discussions between the regulator and parties connected to the broader Hyperliquid ecosystem had already taken place before Trump’s latest comments.

Still, a regulatory meeting should not be interpreted as confirmation that US market access has been approved or that a specific compliance structure has been agreed upon.

What the US Expansion Could Mean for HYPE

For Hyperliquid, the possibility of entering the American market represents a potentially significant turning point.

The platform has built its reputation around decentralized trading, while US regulators have spent years working through questions surrounding crypto derivatives, trading platforms and compliance requirements.

Finding a structure that satisfies regulatory obligations while preserving the platform’s decentralized characteristics could therefore prove challenging.

For investors, the biggest question is whether Wednesday’s rally represents the beginning of a longer repricing or simply a reaction to Trump’s comments.

If regulators eventually establish a clear pathway for US access, HYPE could gain another major catalyst.

If the process stalls or produces restrictions that limit the platform’s functionality, some of the recent gains could come under pressure.

What’s Next?

Attention will now turn to the CFTC and Hyperliquid for concrete details about any potential US expansion.

Investors will be watching for evidence of a formal regulatory application, additional statements from Chair Michael Selig, and clarification over what services Hyperliquid could legally offer American customers.

Until those details emerge, the market is likely to remain highly sensitive to further political and regulatory comments.

Summary

Trump’s comments triggered a major rally in HYPE and helped push shares of Hyperliquid Strategies significantly higher.

The remarks suggested that US regulators may be exploring a compliant route for Hyperliquid to operate in America, but no formal regulatory framework or launch timetable has yet been announced.

At the same time, unusually heavy PURR options activity shortly before Trump’s statement has attracted attention.

While the timing has raised questions, publicly available information does not establish insider trading or identify the trader behind the reported transaction.

For now, the prospect of US access has become one of the most important potential catalysts for the Hyperliquid ecosystem, but the regulatory process remains far from settled.
