Governor Gavin Newsom today declared a state of emergency in Monterey County and Santa Barbara County owing to the effects of the Colorado Fire and Alisal Fire, respectively, in support of ongoing wildfire recovery operations.

A further executive order prohibiting price gouging in Butte, El Dorado, and Plumas counties was also issued by the governor, and it will remain in effect until September 30, 2022.

The emergency declarations provide Caltrans the ability to apply for immediate federal aid for Santa Barbara and Monterey county roadway repairs or reconstruction.

In accordance with the California Disaster Assistance Act, the emergency proclamation for Santa Barbara County directs the Office of Emergency Services to support recovery efforts in the county and includes a clause to make it simpler for those who lost their jobs as a result of the Alisal Fire to access unemployment benefits.
