It’s perhaps inevitable that family resemblances would emerge, but these similarities go beyond just physical features like a well-defined nose or jawline. As observed by avid royal watchers, these likenesses extend to distinctive facial expressions as well. And these uncanny resemblances seem to carry on through generations. This was evident once again recently when the Princess of Wales unveiled a new portrait of her daughter Charlotte in celebration of her eighth birthday.

Social media was abuzz with royal enthusiasts promptly noting the striking parallels between the young Princess and her great-grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth. A comparison between Charlotte’s photo and an image of the Queen at a similar age clearly reveals the family resemblance, with many noting the similarity in their eyes. In another instance, a picture of Princess Charlotte from the Easter Service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, was juxtaposed with a photo of her paternal grandmother, Princess Diana. In both pictures, Charlotte sports a similar mischievous smile to the one Diana had at around the same age.

Prince George, from his early toddler days to more recent images at the late Queen’s funeral, has often been hailed as the spitting image of his father, Prince William. Prince William, during his younger years, was frequently likened to his mother, Princess Diana, sharing the same eyes and flashing a similar smile. Observers have noted that Prince William clearly bears the ‘Spencer look’ and even seems to have inherited his mother’s mannerisms. Additionally, images of a bearded young king bear a strong resemblance to his younger son, Harry, as seen on the cover of his memoir, “Spare.”

Prince Edward’s features strongly echo those of his grandfather, King George VI. Members of the public have pointed out their shared eyebrows and distinctive ears. However, these resemblances stretch back beyond the more contemporary royals. Princess Beatrice is often compared to her ancestor Queen Victoria, with similarities in their facial features, such as Beatrice’s large eyes, mouth, and face shape.
