Dundee head coach Steven Pressley believes the financial imbalance within the Scottish Premiership has grown to its widest point, making it increasingly difficult for clubs outside the league’s biggest spenders to compete.
According to Pressley, the traditional dominance of Celtic and Rangers has now been strengthened by increased investment from Hearts, Hibernian and Aberdeen, creating a clear separation between the league’s wealthiest five clubs and everyone else.

Pressley argued that the growing spending power of Scotland’s biggest clubs has reshaped the competitive landscape.
He pointed to recent transfer activity from Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen as evidence that financial resources at the top end of the league have reached levels rarely seen before.
In his view, the investment now being made by those clubs leaves limited room for others to challenge consistently.
He suggested that if the traditional heavyweights perform to their potential, only one place in the Premiership’s top six is realistically available for the remaining clubs.
Yogane Transfer Highlights Growing Financial Reality
The Dundee manager believes the transfer of winger Tony Yogane perfectly illustrates the widening financial gap.
Yogane impressed during a loan spell at Dundee from Brentford last season, but Pressley admitted the club had little chance of keeping him permanently once Aberdeen entered the race.
While Dundee provided the player with an opportunity to develop and showcase his talent, Aberdeen were able to meet both the transfer fee and salary demands that Pressley said were well beyond Dundee’s financial reach.
For the Dundee boss, the move reflects the growing challenge faced by clubs operating outside the league’s biggest budgets.

Dundee’s new Premiership campaign begins with a daunting trip to reigning champions Celtic before facing another demanding run of fixtures.

Although Pressley admitted he would have preferred a home draw in the Premier Sports Cup, he remains optimistic after his side secured a victory away to Aberdeen during the previous campaign.
