Orlando Pirates have shown their confidence in teenage sensation Mpho Padime by handing him the club’s iconic number 38 jersey ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.
The shirt became available after Relebohile Mofokeng completed his move to Europe earlier this month, with Padime now trusted to carry on the legacy attached to one of the club’s most recognizable squad numbers.
Promotion Follows Outstanding Reserve Team Campaign
Padime’s elevation to the senior squad comes after an exceptional season with Orlando Pirates’ reserve side in the DStv Diski Challenge.
The exciting winger played a key role in helping the Buccaneers capture the reserve league title with a record-breaking 75 points.
Across the campaign, he scored 10 goals and provided nine assists, finishing with an impressive 19 direct goal contributions that earned widespread praise within the club.
His performances convinced the technical team that he was ready to make the leap to first-team football.
Township Talent Who Chose Pirates Over Chiefs
Born in Katlehong, Johannesburg, in June 2007, Padime first caught the attention of scouts while showcasing his skills for Khathorus Juventus FC.
His pace, flair and entertaining “Kasi Flava” style quickly made him one of the most talked-about young talents in township football.
Although Kaizer Chiefs reportedly offered him a development contract, the winger opted to continue his career with Orlando Pirates after joining the club in September 2025—a decision that has already accelerated his rise.

Padime’s progress has extended beyond youth football.
The teenager was included in Orlando Pirates’ pre-season tour of Spain, where he featured in friendly matches against Córdoba CF and UD Las Palmas.
His displays during the tour reportedly left a positive impression on the coaching staff, strengthening his case for a permanent place in the senior squad ahead of the new season.
