Police investigating the death of a 26-year-old man at a summer solstice gathering in the Peak District have confirmed that a man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
The investigation began after Isaac Clare-Watts, a Nottingham resident, was found dead at the historic Nine Ladies Stone Circle on Stanton Moor near Darley Dale.
Emergency services were called to the site at approximately 1.38pm on Monday following reports that a body had been discovered.
Isaac was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 41-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder.
However, Derbyshire Police have since confirmed that he has been released on bail as detectives continue their extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Detectives Appeal for Witnesses From Solstice Gathering
Investigators believe that many of the people who attended the summer solstice celebrations over the weekend may hold crucial information about Isaac’s final hours.
Detective Inspector Tony Owen, who is leading the inquiry, described the killing as an exceptionally violent incident and stressed the importance of gathering a complete timeline of events.
Police are urging anyone who attended the gathering, captured photographs or video footage, or witnessed suspicious activity to come forward.
Officers are particularly interested in speaking with individuals who may have recorded vehicles arriving at or leaving the area.
According to detectives, public cooperation has already generated significant leads, with hundreds of photographs, videos, messages, and witness accounts submitted since the appeal was launched.
Heartbroken Mother Pays Emotional Tribute
As the investigation unfolds, Isaac’s family has been left devastated by the loss.
His mother shared an emotional message on social media, announcing the tragic news and pleading for information that could help identify those responsible.
She described the immense pain felt by the family and appealed to the public to continue sharing Isaac’s photograph in hopes that new information might emerge.
In a separate message, she acknowledged that the family still had very few answers about what had happened.
Referring affectionately to her son as “Isaac the Wonder Boy,” she noted that many people would be deeply affected by the news and thanked those who had reached out with support during the difficult period.
Friends Remember a Popular and Talented Young Man
Tributes quickly poured in from friends, relatives, and acquaintances who remembered Isaac as a vibrant and well-liked young man with a passion for music and sport.
Many described their shock at learning of his death, recalling recent encounters with him and expressing sympathy for his family.
Others remembered his enthusiasm for drumming and his dedication to Muay Thai, the martial art that had become one of his greatest passions.
One friend described him as a “beautiful soul,” while others spoke of his kindness, energy, and the bright future they believed lay ahead of him.
The outpouring of grief reflected the impact Isaac had made on those around him, both personally and professionally.
Construction Firm Honors Former Apprentice
Isaac’s former employer, Frank Goulding Ltd, also paid tribute to him following news of his death.
The company recalled how he joined the business as an apprentice in 2016 and progressed into a highly skilled joiner. Colleagues described him as a valued and popular member of the workforce.
They noted that he had recently taken time away from work to travel and pursue new experiences abroad.
Thailand held particular significance for him, as it offered an opportunity to further develop his Muay Thai skills.
The firm said staff members were deeply saddened by the tragedy and extended their condolences to Isaac’s family and loved ones.
Historic Solstice Site Faces Growing Concerns
The Nine Ladies Stone Circle has long been a destination for people celebrating the summer solstice.
The Bronze Age monument, situated on Stanton Moor, traditionally attracted visitors seeking a peaceful and spiritual gathering.
However, some local residents say the nature of the annual event has changed over the years.
Several people familiar with the area claimed that recent celebrations have increasingly resembled large outdoor parties, attracting substantial crowds, loud music, and reports of drug use.
One local dog walker said the atmosphere had once been calm and respectful but had evolved into something very different.
They described the latest death as a tragic outcome and suggested that the event no longer reflects the traditional values often associated with solstice celebrations.
Police Continue Search for Answers
Despite the arrest and subsequent release on bail of one suspect, detectives insist the investigation remains active and open-minded.
Detective Inspector Owen emphasized that identifying exactly what happened to Isaac remains the force’s highest priority.
He thanked members of the public who have already provided valuable evidence and encouraged anyone who has not yet contacted police to do so.
Officers believe additional witnesses and footage could prove crucial in establishing a full account of the events that led to Isaac Clare-Watts losing his life.
As investigators continue their work, Isaac’s family, friends, and community remain united in their search for answers and justice.
