A 23-year-old British TikTok influencer is facing a murder charge in Dubai after the death of a fellow British citizen during a violent confrontation that authorities are now investigating.

The case has drawn international attention, with human rights advocates arguing that the young woman acted in self-defence and should be treated as a victim of domestic abuse rather than a criminal offender.

Brooke George, originally from Gravesend in Kent and previously employed as a sales assistant at John Lewis, has been accused of fatally stabbing a 26-year-old British man with whom she had developed a relationship after meeting online through Facebook.

A Relationship That Began With Promise

According to accounts provided by George and her family, the pair first connected on social media before she travelled to Dubai to meet him in person.

Her initial visit to the United Arab Emirates was reportedly a positive experience, with George later describing it as one of the happiest periods of her life.

During that trip, the man allegedly arranged activities for her, including a professional photoshoot in the city, and the relationship appeared to progress smoothly.

Encouraged by the experience, George later returned to Dubai for a second visit.

However, relatives and supporters claim that the atmosphere changed dramatically once she arrived for the second time.

Claims of Control and Abuse

George alleges that her companion became increasingly controlling during her return visit.

According to her account, she discovered that her travel arrangements included only a one-way ticket, leaving her concerned about her ability to leave the country independently.

Supporters say tensions escalated further after a night out at a bar in Dubai’s Jumeirah Village area.

George claims the man became intoxicated and physically assaulted her while they were travelling in a vehicle.

She further alleges that the violence continued after they arrived back at his apartment.

Family members say she later contacted them in a distressed and panicked state, reporting that she had been repeatedly punched and was desperate to leave the UAE.

Fatal Confrontation at the Apartment

According to statements released by advocacy group Detained in Dubai, George attempted to arrange a flight back to the United Kingdom with assistance from friends.

She reportedly returned to the apartment only to retrieve her passport, which she claims the man had taken from her.

The organization says George pleaded for the return of the document before another confrontation erupted.

During the struggle, she allegedly feared for her life and grabbed a kitchen knife that was nearby.

The man was fatally wounded during the incident.

Radha Stirling, chief executive of Detained in Dubai, has maintained that George acted while trying to defend herself from an attack.

“She reached for a knife after being attacked and punched in the face,” Stirling said, arguing that investigators should consider evidence suggesting George may have been a survivor of domestic violence.

Arrest at Dubai Airport

Following the incident, George attempted to leave the country and travel back to Britain.

However, authorities arrested her at Dubai International Airport in the early hours of June 22 before she could board her flight.

She has since been formally charged with murder and remains in custody while legal proceedings continue.

Human rights advocates warn that the charge carries severe consequences under UAE law.

Reports indicate that if convicted of the most serious offence, she could face the possibility of capital punishment.

Concerns Raised Over Detention Conditions

George is currently being held at the Bur Dubai Police Station, a detention facility that has attracted criticism from campaigners in previous cases.

Her family and representatives have raised concerns about her treatment while in custody.

They claim she was required to remove her clothing in the presence of male officers and without female staff being present, an experience they say left her deeply distressed.

Detained in Dubai has also alleged that George has struggled to understand parts of the legal process because of language difficulties.

The organization claims she has not received adequate access to legal representation and has faced obstacles in communicating with British consular officials.

Mother Speaks of Daughter’s Fear

George’s mother, Thereza George, has publicly expressed concern about her daughter’s welfare and mental state.

She recalled noticing a significant change in Brooke’s behaviour shortly before the fatal incident, describing her as unusually quiet and withdrawn.

According to her mother, a phone call after the confrontation revealed a young woman in extreme distress.

“Thereza said Brooke was crying uncontrollably and appeared terrified.

She also claimed that one of her daughter’s eyes was visibly swollen following the alleged assault.”

The grieving mother said she remains convinced that her daughter was desperately trying to return home and escape a situation that had become frightening and dangerous.

Investigation Continues

Authorities in Dubai have not publicly accepted the self-defence claims, and the case remains under investigation as George prepares to contest the murder allegation in court.

The proceedings are expected to focus heavily on the circumstances surrounding the fatal confrontation, including evidence of the alleged abuse, witness testimony, medical findings, and whether George’s actions were a lawful response to an immediate threat.

As the legal battle unfolds, the case is likely to attract continued attention from both British officials and international human rights organizations monitoring the treatment of foreign nationals within the UAE justice system.
