Police in Hungary have released disturbing images from the home of a man accused of collecting human remains, including a reconstructed face made from human skin that was displayed in what investigators described as a trophy cabinet.
Authorities say the case has raised serious concerns about the handling of human remains and could lead to additional criminal charges as forensic examinations continue.
Chilling Discovery Inside Budapest Home
The investigation centers on a 30-year-old man from Budapest who allegedly filled his residence with human bones and other body parts.
Photos released by police show a grim interior where skeletal remains were displayed throughout the property, including bones hanging from curtain fixtures and stored in various locations around the home.
Among the most shocking discoveries was a reconstructed human face created from preserved facial skin.
Investigators said the object was prominently displayed in a cabinet alongside other remains that the suspect reportedly regarded as part of a personal collection.
Human Remains Found Throughout Property
When officers searched the residence, they uncovered numerous body parts and skeletal remains.
According to investigators, the findings included skulls, a complete lower leg, and a human hand.
Some bones had been packed away inside a suitcase, while other remains were displayed openly.
Police also recovered a jar containing what appeared to be a preserved heart.
Forensic specialists are now working to determine whether the organ originated from a human or an animal.
Authorities documented the scene extensively and also seized photographs that the suspect had allegedly taken of his collection.
Suspect Allegedly Admitted to Cannibalism
Investigators say the man admitted to having an unusual fascination with body parts and confessed that he had cooked and consumed some of the remains.
The allegations have intensified public interest in the case, with police continuing to examine evidence to determine the full extent of the suspect’s activities and whether additional crimes may have been committed.
Hospital Job Provided Access to Body Parts
According to authorities, the suspect worked as an orderly at a hospital and allegedly removed some of the body parts from his workplace.
Police also claim the man admitted to obtaining remains by exhuming bodies from abandoned cemeteries in both Hungary and neighboring Slovakia.
Investigators are now tracing the origins of every recovered item to establish exactly where the remains came from and whether other individuals may have been affected.
Investigation Began After Police Tip-Off
The suspect was arrested last week after law enforcement received information regarding his alleged activities.
Following his arrest, officers carried out a detailed search of the property and confiscated a wide range of electronic devices, including computers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, SIM cards, and data storage devices.
Investigators are reviewing the contents for additional evidence.
Forensic Analysis Could Expand Case
The man is currently under judicial supervision while prosecutors investigate him on suspicion of disturbing the peace of the dead, an offense related to the unlawful handling of human remains.
Authorities described him as someone with a strong interest in anatomy and pathology who also enjoyed dissecting animals.
However, officials emphasized that forensic examinations remain ongoing.
Police said every recovered body part will undergo expert analysis, and investigators have not ruled out the possibility that additional offenses could be uncovered once the origins of the remains are fully established.
The final scope of the case will depend on the results of those examinations and the evidence obtained from the suspect’s electronic devices.
