Noel Gallagher has revealed that his “heart is full of pride” after his 15-year-old son Sonny made his feelings toward Manchester United supporters unmistakably clear during Manchester City’s derby victory at Old Trafford.
The teenager was among the City supporters celebrating in the stands alongside his older brother Donovan, 18, and their father when Erling Haaland put City ahead in the second half.
Sonny responded to the moment by raising both middle fingers toward rival fans.
The gesture came as City were playing with 10 men following Phil Foden’s red card, adding even more tension to an already heated derby.
Haaland Goal Sparks Wild Celebration
Sonny’s celebration followed a lengthy VAR review of Haaland’s goal, with sections of the home crowd believing the striker had been caught offside.
The goal was eventually awarded, allowing City to take the lead in a match they went on to win.
While Sonny directed his attention toward the United supporters, his father was also caught up in the celebrations.
Noel punched the air, clapped and joined in with the jubilant chanting as his son taunted the opposition fans.
The teenager’s gesture quickly attracted attention beyond the stadium, becoming one of the more colourful moments from the derby.
Noel Gallagher Sees the Funny Side
Rather than reprimanding his son, Noel joked that the incident demonstrated that he had done a good job as a father.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Gallagher reflected on the intensity of supporting City from an away section and said there comes a moment when parents realise their children have inherited their passion.
“There comes a point in your time as a father where you look at your children and you think, ‘My god, I brought you up well’ – when they feel it as much as you do and when they get it,” he said.
The Oasis frontman acknowledged that football rivalry can become particularly intense when opposing supporters are sitting directly in front of one another.
“Let’s not forget, when you’re in that away end and the United fans are in front of you, they’re giving it to you as much as you’re giving it to them,” Gallagher added.
Sonny Follows His Father’s City Allegiance
Gallagher went on to express his delight that his sons had fully embraced the occasion.
“But he made the newspapers today and my heart is full of pride for my sons who got stuck into it yesterday and got stuck into the United fans as well,” he said.
Sonny’s allegiance to City comes as little surprise given his father’s long-standing relationship with the club.
The Gallagher family have been prominent supporters of Manchester City for years, with Noel and his brother Liam among the most recognisable celebrity fans associated with the team.
